hi all,

I have a stihl ts400 cut quick saw. Its about 5 yrs old. Stored for winter now i'm getting it ready and it wont spark. Changed both wires and still no spark. It seems like it sparks but not consistently. maybe 1 spark every 20 pulls. New spark plug installed (gapped properly), new wires.....whats next? module?

Before you replace the module (spending money for a part that can't be returned), take the plug out of the clyinder and put it in the end of the wire. Remove the cover to get to the module. Get the ground wire off the module, put the electrode of the plug against the cylinder and try to get a consistent spark out of it.

If you DON'T get spark - replace the module (its defective).
If you DO get spark - the problem is elsewhere (pinched wire, defective on/off switch, etc.).

EDIT - Almost forgot....Check the gap between the flywheel and module - make sure it's correct.

It is pretty common for this model to have the insulation on the kill wires
rubbed bare in spots, and grounding out.
Just follow the wires and repair with heat-shrink tubing.
