Can I ask that here?
A couple of months ago a neighbor mentioned he needed a trailer similar to mine for a motorcycle... I told him I was looking for a larger trailer and maybe he could purchase mine. Well tonight he knocked at the door inquiring about it. I told him I would get back to him in a day or so..
I purchased my trailer in Florida 3 years ago new, from a company called SunCoast. It's a heavy duty 6' x 12' enclosed. By heavy duty I mean the entire framing is constructed of iron (or steel) not alluminum. It has dual (torflex) axles, electric brakes, side door and two nice shelves up front.
The retail price for it was $3700 3 years ago. It is in very good condition. It has one dent in the fender and needs a good cleaning.
What do you think I should ask for it?
I could really use a larger trailer...

but not realistic.
Anyone think $2750 is out of line?

I sold a single axle, no brakes, side door, torflex axles also, fold down rear door, Pace 6 x 12 last fall, it was a 1997 and was extremely clean. Set up for hauling dirtbikes. Had checkered floor and aluminum wheels and fenders. Trailer was black outside and painted white inside. I sold it for $2700. So you could compare it to that if possible.

Personally I would take my cost at new and try to get at least 75% of that. I don't know a lot about enclosed, but they usually hold value good.

While you're out pricing the new one you want, price the same trailer you have - the price 3 years ago means less than the current new price - could be up or down. I certainly wouldn't pay within a hundred or two of new price.

$2500-2700 i think would be a fair price.
If I was going to buy a trailer, If I couldn't get a used one for 75% of the price new, I would just buy one new.

If that doesn't sell go 2200 firm.

I just happened to do this today and... the price for a similar trailer at the closest dealer was -----------> $4800.00
Maybe you were right LawnPro.. $3650??? I could actually make a profit :)
But... I can't get over how expensive they are.. It would cost me $5250.00 to step up to a 7 x 14

No offense to anyone, but about 2-3 months ago I was trying to get an idea of what Walker owners would sell a used Walker mower for, I was just asking for info ,not trying to sell it on this site. I had some someone local interested in it and I was just looking for some input just like TSG is doing. I was told I couldn't ask these type of questions and had to go to the used equipment post because it might be misconstrued as a classified... Can you ask questions and get information or not ?

I was at a auction 2 weeks ago, and saw a 1998 7' x 14' Haulmark Cadet sell for $2,400 It had a big ding in the front, but otherwise it wasn't in too bad of shape. It had the ramp door, and a side door. The owner used it for hauling motorcycles. I would have bid up to $2000 on it, but after walking around inside it, It just didn't look like there was that much room. I decided to wait and look for a 7' x 18' at least. Had a gentleman at the auction tell me he had a new 8' x 24' car hauler for sale, it had less than 1000 miles on it. I was loaded, plus a 48" side door. He said he paid $5000 for it, and would sell it for $3900 It just sounds too big. I got all winter to look so I'm in no hurry.

Asking for advice is ok. Trying to actualy sell it is not. As long as your not advertiseing a for sale or a wanted add it is fine. If you want take a quick glance back at the posting guide lines if you have any questions, or e-mail me.

Retail price a three years ago was 3700 bucks. How much have you depreciated it in those three years for tax purposes? How much would the ding in the fender cost to get fixed? What type of shape are the brakes in? Are the axles bent ? A six by twelve trailor seems a little much for a motorcycle. Your neighbor is most likely looking for a deal. Unless he has the means to haul a very heavy duty trailor around, I would discourage him to not buy an over kill piece of equipment.
The questions I asked earlier in the post refer to the tax ramifications you might incur from technically making a profit from the sale of the trailor. If you have the space, it is always a good idea to have a backup of every piece of equipment you own and you could continue to depreciate the trailor until its time to unload it. Talk with your lawyer and your accountant and see if it is best to pocket the cash now or hold onto it.
Last but not least, you have to live close to this person. When was the last time you wanted to sell a used car to your neighbor? And if you ever have, did the waving in the morning on the way to get the paper stop because someone felt like they got the shaft?
