The one 3500 and the 4500 are Duramax's I can see but the others appear to be gas...

the trucks got numbered 4 because we started out numbering the truck of the year it was which was no problem when i bought my first truck and well i guess it wasnt planned that things would go as well as they have the 4500 does well plowing its 2wd, we normally run it with 2 yards of 3/4" in the bed and no problems. it stays at a account with a one inch trigger and all flat ground though so i would say that helps alot. yes i know the blizzard lights drive me crazy i have adjusted them many times even thrown a lock washed on them i am going to switch them out to a nylon lock nut i just didnt have any at the shop as far as the boss goes thats the truck i normally drive because it has a v-box salt spreader in it the plug for the plow is bad and the headlights on the plow dont work so thats why i have not adjusted them i just havent gotten around to fixing the plug yet so at this point i will just wait and fix it when the weather gets nicer and have it ready for next yearn popo you are correct the truck that has the blizzard and the 4500 are the only 2 diesels the one with the blizzard is new to us just before xmas thats why the decals are not on it yet. to be honest idk that the diesel is worth it in thoose trucks for what we do. dont get me wrong the power is great and a joy to drive but we are only getting around 10mpg with it so its not much better than the 6.0s and the truck cost me much more along with diesel costing about .40 more a gallon here

thanx for all the nice comments i appreciate it alot of long hours have gone in to put this small collection of trucks together if anybody has any questions or would like any other pictures just ask

thats what i was going to ask if you think its worth it to have a diesel over a gas in the one tons. im thinking about a getting one this spring

Mlc gmc03
03-07-2008, 12:12 AM
well its not fair for me to say its not worth it i will say the extra power is great for plowing its just in our case that truck is going to be on a maintence route so the loads it will be pulling could be pulled easily by a gas motor but say if u were pulling a skid loader the power sure is nice earlier in the winter i had my deere tractor and trailer hooked up to that truck to go move some snow and for that it was deff nice you couldnt even tell it was back there. for the most part though the deere will always be pulled by the 4500 which is my normal truck so like i say its not fair to say its not worth it it depends on what you plan to do with it

wow, your trucks are very nice. I would like some pics of the deere and maybe some other trailers/equipment. what is the ratio of landscape/maintenance that you do? how many employees? how many accounts? Congratulations on your success.

the picture of the mowers is actually from last april i think it was too cold and i am to lazy to get them out right now, but this week it is going to be nicer so i can take more pics yes at the time that tt was new its a 61 with 29dfi the other tt was my first rider its got the 22hp liquid cooled kawi on it with somewhere areound 3000 hours and still runs good as far as accounts its somewhere around 200 with a mix from residentials to hoa to comercial offices to industrial sites with 20+ acres employes depends on the time in a perfect world somewhere between 10 and 12 but we all know the world isnt perfect and good help is hard to find yes the tractor is all i have right now it was between that and a bobcat last year when i got that. i decided on the tractor because we use it quite reguraly for bush hogging. i bought the tractor last july/aug and have a lil over 200 hours on it so i dont think it was a bad choice this year it will prob be a bobcat to compliment it and to use for winter work up here i am also interested in a dingo like machine, it would fit well on out jobs in tight areas

6-7 years i would say as far as adver we do phone book door to door flyers around all of our current customers often during the year door to door in new areas we want to target we do home shows, get our customers on a garden walk anytime there is one in there area including my own house a few times. for the garden walks we really try to go all out especially with plant material, i always bring in stuff that is not common it gets people thinking. we are members of i think 4 chamber of comerces thats cheap adver um angies list isnt bad tell you customers to rate u on there sorry for rambling i am just trying not to leave anything out we try pretty much anything we can if you have a local sandwhich shop ask if you can leave a stack of cards, also hit your landscape supply yard with the cards. we have a great relationship with our hardscape supplier whenever sombody is in looking at material and asks if they install he passes the work onto us so in return he gets the business of the sale of the material. the most important thing i can tell you is always always take care of your suppliers pay your bills ontime they have people to put food on the table for too

thanks for the info. i had 30k very nice flyer's made up for this spring. im going to go door to door and try to talk with the homeowner for 30 sec to a minute to get a foot in the door. and then im going to have the other workers put them on the doors and distribute them. people always say the return rate is about 2-3% so at that rate the return would be 600 calls. i dont think i will get half of that so my goal this year is 50 new accounts. i will be very pleased if we get that.

getting your walking shoes out if u think your gonna get 30k flyers out i think that would be verry hard to do, but at the same time i dont think it will take near that many to get 50 customers. dont give up either once the season gets started we send our trucks out with flyers and tell them if one of them is done before the other guy to go hit 5or 6 houses on each side of the customer they are servicing. its easy and you have already paid they time and gas for the guy to get there use it. it works too we have several areas where after years of doing it we have nice blocks of customers where there are 4 or 5 houses together it really helps because you are only getting paid when your mowing not driving, and with the price of gas you want to cut the driving time to a minimum

oh yeah i forgot to say we are only going to do 1/2 of the 30k by hand the other 1/2 is going to get mailed to select areas through the local news paper distributor. i was also hoping to put out another 10k by using direct mail if money allows. i am hoping for 50 but if i get more than that i will buy more equipment. thats a real good idea about having the guys put out a few while they wait, i never even though of that.
