I'm guessing you're only delivering it for $25 a yard with a large minimum. I hope you're not installing for that price.

I can't even go buy and pick up mulch myself for $25 a yard, let alone install it..

FromtheGroundUp

100 bucks per yard is ok if you doing a small yard or 2 job. i have found the more i install the lower my price per yard becomes. if i'm doing a 7-8 yard job by myself it takes 6hrs or so. i really dont need to make that much of one mulch job

grassman177
03-17-2008, 11:06 AM
yeah, of course, as you go bigger and bigger the price does drop as you are there and it takes less time per yard as the trip time has passed(does that make sense) i have a job that takes around 40 yds and it gets done at 45 per yd installed, we still make out well as it really is an hourly type job at that point

loupiscopolandscaping
03-18-2008, 08:49 PM
root mulch-$55, dyed black $60, dyed red $65 Cedar and hemlock $70.......Jobs 1-3 yards anywhere from $75-$100 a yard depends on the distance from the pick up yard and how many plants in the beds.

how long would you say it takes to install 14 cubic yards? never done it before and trying to guestimate my labor?
thx

loupiscopolandscaping
03-18-2008, 10:35 PM
depends on the worker, the distance of the beds, the amount of shrubs, weeding, edging.... my guess 1 guy for the average job 8 hrs completed

Hey KJSlawn, were a celtics fan last year when they only won 24 games ?
Just playing with you. We've got the Sox, Pats and the Celts, not a bad time to be a Boston sports fan

My question for everyone is; is the price you all are quoting to lay new mulch with barrier, to remove old mulch and install new, or to just dress up existing mulch? I've got a few of each jobs to bid and could use some pointers. I know layout, delivery and other things factor in, just a baseline for each could be helpful. Thanks in advance for the replies!

I get $90 per yard installed, now that's not including any hedge/shrub trimming or cleaning beds. That's just for the mulch & install.

I'm curious to know how much some of you guys are paying for a yard of mulch. I get triple for $17 a yard - applying a yard of mulch for an additional $70 or $80 just doesn't seem right to me. I can understand applying only one yard for that price, but to apply 10 yards at $70 a yard - talk about making a killin'! I'm installing for around $48 a yard - 6 yard minimum.

my costs per yard
$12 oak
$15 oak dyed red/dark brown
$20 cedar
i finally found where the landscape centers buy their mulch. they will sell it by the yard. they use a 4 yard bucket to load, so if you need less they more less guess. its always worked out in my favor.

I was charging $65.00 per yard installed last year. Now, keep in mind I've done the spring clean-up, edging etc to these properties at a completely separate price. I don't include edging as part of the mulch installation. Does anyone ?
Go Celts !

Medium grind fir bark runs about $16/yard. With an average, basic bark install I figure 1 yd. per man hour for moving, spreading and cleanup so we charge between $65 and $75 a yard, depending on the job. If it's an extremely large job with difficult terrain, I call in a blower service. Can't touch it for what they can do it for.

.....I am new here and to the business. I have a friend who called for an estimate on bed edging and mulch. First guy told her $350 for about 200' of edging. Second guy told her $1000 total, for 250' of edging, and 6-8 yards of mulch @ $34 a yard. Last but not least, someone else came in at $575 for total.......Now I am looking at doing job myself at lowest bid. I will admit that I have never done edging before and have no idea if this is going to be a profitable job or a terrible learning experience. I cannot begin to imagine how long it will take me to do this work. I am apprehensive about doing for said price. I hate to "lowball'' the industry, but am testing the waters here, with the help of a friend.

75-105 per yard/ includes edging and trimming of all landscape plants. My brother and I did 3 jobs-22 yards today...needless to say, I don't have to go to the gym tomorrow.
