I have a customer who wants a 8x73ft mulch bed to add some privacy from her neighbor She wants forsythias and some ornamental grass also pine trees, what would be a good type of pine that would look good with that? I was thinking about Alberta spruce? Thanks for the help

Does the site get full sun? Spruce prefer full sun. They will tolerate some shade. Are you talking about a dwarf Alberta Spruce? 'Mucronata' spruce is a good specimen. 8' tall-6'wide.

Alberta spruce is not a Pine, just to state the obvious. Forsythias don't do a good job of screening and also look like crap after they bloom. I would mix this bed with other flowering shrubs for sure. also, does she want screening all year long at this site? If so, you will have to keep in mind that the forsythia will look like twigs in the winter and the grasses if cut (I don't like to) will leave gap in the planting. As far as screening goes. We have folks who like arborvitaes. Pines, such as white will spread very wide unless sheared to keep them under control.

There are also some really nice other plants such as hoopsi or fat albert spruce. Dwarf korean fur. Hinoke cypress. And some nice upright junipers that will all stay pretty undercontrol overtime. Of course the budget will dictate alot. Some of the ones mentioned are a little pricey.
