I have a prodigy and like it a lot. I have only ever used Tekonsha controllers and never had a problem with any of them. I recommend the prodigy. On an 87 I don't think there is a plug and play so you will have to hook into 12v with one wire, ground with another, you will have to splice one other wire into the brake light switch at the top of the pedal. I think it's green or green with an orange or yellow stripe. It is the one that gives 12v when the pedal is applied, instructions should tell you which. You will need to run a wire from the controller back to the connector at the back of the truck. Shouldn't take more than a half hour to do it right.

I think Foster has it right. There is no plug and play on the 87.
Prodigy is well liked by those who use it.

I think that the prodigy may be overkill. I have the voyager in all of my older trucks any they work great. In my 04 that tows heavier trailers, dumps etc, I have the prodigy since as mentioned above, it is just a plug in.

so i would have to hard wire it? does that mean that it would be a little harder to take it out of the truck when i sell it? but still no big deal right? so what all do i need just the actual brake controller and a bracket? Does it come with good instructions?
thanks for yalls help

yeah i know that kinda **** pretty well, but all do i need to order? Just the mounting bracket and the actual controller and then does the wire needed to hard wire it in come with it or do i need to order it separately. Should I just buy one new or yall think ebay would be good there is a ton on there.
