I have to go look at a landscaping job tomorrow. I have a lawn service and I know how to bid for that, but he wants me to remove lava rock and replace it with a few yards of mulch. I am not sure how to bid on the removal of the rock, or for the mulch. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just figure your hourly labor rate x how long you think it will take you.

Ouch! That is back breaking work. I just won a bid for removing gravel from flower beds and bid that at $2.50 per square foot plus $60.00 disposal fee. This was only a maximum depth of 2-3 inches.

Note; The job was over 600sf with other services included, but the price above is for the gravel removal only.

I hope this helps on the rock side.

I don't know how big the area is yet, I am going tomorrow to look at it. He told me that he thought he needed a couple of yards of mulch, and I havn't found out my contractor price on the mulch.

Is that cubic yards of mulch, because that is a lot of mulch. Make sure you find out how deep the mulch needs to be.

just a yard, not a cubic yard. i was going to shoot for 2-3 inches deep. I can fit about a 1 1/2 yards of mulch in my truck, so depending on the size I hope to only have to make one trip with the mulch. I was going to remove the rock, go dump it, and pick the mulch up on the way back.
