6.5.HP brigs trim mower/ Have taken carb apart Ran wire,air,& carb cleaner thru all openings & jets. If I put duct tape on carb opening it will run a few sec. will not run with out it, Thanks. Gary

sound like your getting too much air from somewhere , check fuel line make sure there is no dry rot or pin holes , how old is the motor ? sometimes the choke and throttle plate holders the rods the get wore out and leak too much air which is another reason it may need to be choked to keep it running .

Did you happen to clean the ports in the bowl nut ?

The bowl nut is the main jet on this carb....


Would need model and type numbers off this engine to go any further.
