Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of just how long I should wait for the soil to settle.
I've been into some new home sites mowing and almost always see the old utility trench that they backfilled creating a grass ditch right through the center/front of the home.
As I mentioned before I'm thinking about installing new lawns for a local contractor.
Just as a precaution, do any of you have a set amount of time that you wait before seeding over any backfilled soil? Also what about winter dug trenches?

First make sure the frost is out of the ground, then you can either run your equipment tires over it or jet the trench. Jetting will work the best if you have access to lots of water. You can also try running trench compactors over them. I have rented ones that fit on my skid loader they work ok but can take alot time make sure you get paid for it some builders will try and cut corners and make you pay for the repair!
----------
paul
