From the list you have, I'd go with the Exmark HP.

Bad Boy is the most mower for the money. 10cc pumps, 10mph, full 1/4 in" pushbutton lift deck, 48" 23hp Vanguard $5999, 48" 30hp Kohler Command $6395, or 31hp Kawasaki 60" $7295 (not sure on the 48" or 52" with the Kawa...haven't had anybody ask yet). If you squeeze just $500 bucks more, you can get the 14mph Lightning 52" with the 26hp Liquid-Cooled Kawasaki, the 12cc pumps, 4 wheel suspension, the $500 dollar Michigan air-seat, and the liquid-cooled motor will last 50% longer than the air-cooled all for $7495. My favorite mower out of them all by far for the money!!

Hard to pick when there are so many choices. The confusion sets in.
I have been using an Exmark HP for years. Great mower. 48 inch 18 kohler

It can be daunting. But what would be great is , if you could afford just 1300.00 more then, you could purchase the greatest (I'll hear about this) mower on the market---

Scag Turf Tiger 52"

$1300 more?! they wanted close to 13 grand for that mower in my neck of the woods... about 90% positive it was the 52 inch too

Can't go wrong with Exmark, Ferris, John Deere, or Scags. Scratch the others off. Those 4 are tops in commerical mowers. I personally have an Everride Warrior and I love it. Look up their website. You can get a Warrior 54" with 25 hp Kawi or 27 hp Kohler full size mower at a real good price right now. Cheaper than the other's mid size mowers. Ariens bought Everride but is continuing the line. I emailed Ariens with quetions and they sent my message around internally until my questions could be answered (Good Service). If you dont have a local store that deals with Everride then choose one of the other so you can get service if you need it. That is the only complaint I have with mine even though I really havent needed service yet that I could not handle. But I do have a good local place that will work on mine if needed.

A dealer in Birmingham had a 07 new in the box and he wanted it otd for $8500.00 two months ago. I just bought a new 08 three weeks ago otd for 10865.00 61" /29dfi Kaw. The price on Scags do vary. I've seen here for sometime that the further north of the Mason & Dixon you go "It seems the higher they are."

Scag pricing varies by very large amounts regionally. While there will always be some pricing differences amongst dealers within a given area, there are major price differences from region to region because of large differences in distributor to dealer pricing in different regions. Now to answer your question, I would reccomend either a scag tiger cub 48/52or gravely 148/152 units. For near the price range you're looking at you should be able to get a 23vanguard 52" tiger cub, or a 21kaw 148xdz, and maybe a 23kaw/ 152xdz

In this neck of the woods, Exmark, Scag, and JD are popular. My first choice is Exmark and second is Scag. If PACE distributors are gouging in this area, I would go Exmark. Call PACE and ask them why that mower is that much. I would spend more for these three mower brands before considering anything else on the list.

I see more Toro ZTR's on trailers around here then anything else...as a matter of fact I bet its about 5:1 around here. Exmark and Scag is also popular...but I rarely ever see JohnDeere even though we have a dealer in our area (High prices)

Not arguing, just stating a point to the OP.

Out of those I would go Gravely 148 or 148XDZ. The X-Factor deck is second to none and Gravely mowers are well built and have good support.

I'll recommend the Scag also. I demoed Badboy,Deere,Exmark, and Hustler this winter and I will just say go and get the Scag. You don't want to go and buy a mower because of its color or price points. You want a mower thats going to be trouble free and reputable. Scags are bulletproof machines. In your price range I would get the 52" Wildcat with the 26 liquid cooled Kaw. Like they say "Scags are simply the best".:usflag:

do i need a special promotion code for that deal or something?

i got a packet in the mail from ferris that had there smallest commercial ztr advertized as$5,199 and that is the 24 hp Briggs engine. boooo and the 44" inch deck. its the compact IS 500 Z. Id rather spend another thousand for the kawasaki engine but its no where near the 4995$. they want 6399$ for the IS 1500 Z

If you don't have my clean-up jobs, more of just mowing you should look into the John Deere Quik Trak 48" You can build your own on their website, the base price for the 48" model is $7139 and I'm sure you could get a better price on that if you go to your dealer.

In this area it is mainly Dixie Chopper Scag Encore exmark/yazoo-kees. and hustler. An up and commerin the area is country clipper getting pretty strong and ferris but ferris seems to be loosing ground or at least I see a lot of them for sale!

I had to make the same decision a few months ago and after looking at all the different ZTR available to me, I bought the Bad Boy Lightning (description in signature).
For me, it was the best mower for the money invested.
Also, I cannot find a negative point about it :weightlifter:

out of all ZTR ferris is hands down the best machine, not for price in our neck of the woods id say bobcat is the biggest next would be scag and exmark

ive always liked scags... im leaning towards a scag if i can find one for the right price and financing... would really like a scag cub :gunsfirin

but just found a bada$$ toro z 400 2007 model with the bagger system for 7500$. thats for the mower and bagger system. get to choose between a 19 kawi or 20 hp kohler. so im saving about $1200 of the 08 pricing with the 07 model. just not sure if i should go with the kohler or kawi... leaning towards kawisaki even though its 19 hp and the kohler is 20 hp... but scag is still in the running. along with ferris, exmark, gravely, toro, hustler. tried bad boy but there is only one dealer within 50 miles and it was someones house... brutaaal :dizzy:

will have a better understanding of things once i can get a hold of a sales rep. ;)

jd makes a a great z trak mower, i used a 727 on a apartment complex, 2 days of straight mowing and not a whisper of a problem, they are tanks and the hydros move on a dime, i have a z225, "crap" but he 5x bigger ztrak moves just as good or maybe better, great mowers.

when the ferris peole approached us about carrying their line (we chose not to as there are too many ferris dealers too close by) the rep told us the IS 500 is not a commercial unit and that it's intended for homeowners.

cant beat the exmarks for cut, speed, and ease of use. the scag is build a little heavier but dosnt cut as well or manuver as well as far my experience goes. i have tried them all and landed firmly on exmark for the past 2 years and i really feel like my efficiency is maxed out due to these mowers, i just cant imagine doing as good a job in nearly the time with any other mower.

you also have to think about the dealer satisfaction. all those mowers are great and do the same thing. >cut grass< and some may be better than others upon personal opinions, but find the dealer who will take care of you and get those parts in next day. you dont want to find yourself sitting at home staring at your $10,000 dollar piece of equipment when you should be out there hustlin trying to pay it off. all those machines are good. now find a good dealer, and i think you'll know which one to go with. dealer support is everything.
