I had my first mow of the season last thursday and the yard that I had was about 50% weeds 25% grass and 25% sand. A lot of the weeds in her yard are clover, when you try to mow clover, it just lays over. I noticed this when I mowed and so did the home owner, she is a really nice lady and I explained to her that it is a really tough weed to mow because it just lays down under the blade. I told her when I come out next week that I will drop the height of cut to see if that helps. I am also gonna suggest putting out some grass seed and see if we can't get something to compete with those weeds. My question is, did I explain to her properly the situation and will lowering the height of cut help? I am going over there this weekend to do some bed work and will suggest putting out some grass seed.

don't seed over clover, you need to kill the clover first.

clover grows too fast for new grass to spread and take over. wasting your clients money

Wheels is right. But keep in mind if you are going to kill the weeds off, most states require a fert lic.

Why!!

I thought just buy concentrate Round Up, dilute and spray the crap out of the weeds.....

But what are you going to do with the dead weeds? Don't you have to till the soil to get rit of all the dead roots!!!:waving:

are you using a homeowners mower, a commercial mower has higher blade tip speed, and make sure your blades are really sharp.......

wait till you try and cut the dandylions.....they really bounce back up...

id hire a licensed subcontractor to weed and feed, then reseed with a slit seeder later in the season

Thanks for all of the input. Yeah I was thinking about a weed and feed also. Can I seed in the summer months or does it have to be in the spring when it is cooler?

Again, if you try this method, rather it is commercial application spraying or RoundUp for your accounts, doesn't matter. A fert lic is required, otherwise if you are caught spraying and applicating, you will face a hefty fine.

1 if you spray round up in the lawn you wont have that account next year........... you need 24d 2 kill the weeds in the lawn if you dont know Y you souldnt be spraying any thing. Now if you have clover you have a lack of nitrogen . Yes you can over seed any time but if she dont water dont bother get a soil sample 2 see what you need 2 get the grass back in shape
