Take a look at this ebay listing. It is a stihl fs83. The cover and housing is the same as a redmax bcz2600s zenoah komatsu engine. Can someone explain why stihl has the same design as redmax??

the fs83 powerhead was made for stihl by redmax in 2002-2003. my understanding is stihl could not meet epa regulations so they worked out a deal with redmax. i have a fs83 and still use it as an dedicated edger (attatchment).

That's because it is a Redmax engine. I think they did that about 4-5 years ago. They needed an engine that was CARB compliant, so they bought some from Redmax. We sold about 10 of them when they were available.

Okay I just thought stihl put a redmax cover on a stihl engine. Is it a good combo having a redmax engine on a stihl trimmer?

the fs83 was a real nice weedeater, tough and dependable. i tried a redmax weedeater several years later and was very disappointed with it. i do like redmax backpacks though.......
