Some will call this blatant self promotion but hey, what the heck?

This appeared a week or so ago in my local paper:

The results were immediate... a prospect that was sitting on the fence called me the next day and has contracted a full interior and outdoor system for their new home!

We send out press releases all the time and most of them get printed. It's free publicity!!

Press releases can be very effective once you have made all the right connections at the media outlets. Getting the first few of them published can be tricky, but once you have established yourself as a solid source of content, the media outlets are more apt to actually read and publish what you feed them.

That little piece was not a press release.... they called me, which is nice.

Once you have yourself confirmed as a good source, then you can start lobbying the media for a regular voice. I had a column in a local magazine for a year in which I got to discuss all manner of issues regarding lighting. It was a great platform by which I built brand recognition in the market.
