View Full Version : Echo SRM-265 or Shindaiwa T-242

I've basically narrowed my new trimmer choices down to the new Echo SRM-265 or the Shindaiwa T-242. I'm doing only residential and not a TON of yards (already have another job). It's no secret that a lot of fireman cut grass on their days off. I've asked as many guys on the job as I could, but they all seem to have their "brand loyalty", which I understand, I just don't prefer one over another yet. The Echo is 25.4cc and the Shindaiwa is 23.9cc. Both $300. Am I going to notice the slight difference in power if I'm not in foot tall grass and weeds? Or do I just quit whining about it and pick one already because it doesn't really matter and either is fine?

I like Echo.
You may have trouble finding parts and support for Shindi...

Shindy is great. It's all I own or run now. Parts. .. .they are pretty strong in this area so there shouldn't be any issues there.

Went ahead and got the Shindaiwa. I have a small amount of exposure to them from mowing previously with a buddy from work. He had 2 Shindy trimmers and an edger. Never had a problem all season and they were a few years old and beat up. Plus the customer service from the dealer was fantastic. The guy at the place I got my mower and blower from wasn't nearly as helpful and I spent close to a grand at his shop. Customer service is huge to me. Thanks for the posts.
