It sounds like a Grasshopper model 721D. They've made those for many years (and still do) and they are a very good mower. With that many hours it could be a recent year model used by a lco, but at that price I suspect it is many years old. Nothing wrong with that if it was cared for. Those engines are solid and all mower parts should be available even if it is older. Check out this link where they list quite a few for sale with an assortment of hours. http://www.tractorhouse.com/listings/forsale/list.asp?FullText=grasshopper&etid=1&man=GRASSHOPPER&eqsl=2&bcatid=464&PG=3&guid=17FFB93F61B14E27AD10730EB28F48ED

That link doesn't work. Simply google used grasshoppers and you'll find plenty of info............Lynn

This is my first post so I need to get over and introduce myself but i've owned 2 Grasshopper 721ds. The Kubota Diesel is a solid engine and the grasshopper cuts fairly well. Just doesnt do too well when its wet. The one I have now has apx 1,750 hrs and runs better than when it was new.

I use Kubota an love them started with a gas burner 48in cut runs great love it never any problem I know have a deisel 60in deck and love it even more. I would go with kubota may not have made zero turns long but kubota has been around forever and makes tough and I mean tough stuff. Love em

If I can be of any more hel please me know

The Grasshopper actually has a better engine than the Kubota. Kubota mowers use the Kubota "farm" engine. Grasshopper uses only Kubota "industrial" engines. The "industrial" engine is a little beefier, and is used on all sorts of heavy duty construction machinery.
If the machine has been well cared for, it should last you many more years.

2000 hours is pretty high, that would be a concern for me

The engine could easily be troublefree for 6000 hours. The hydro drive system should go at least 3000 hours.
If it has the G2 hyd.trans. system, I would go for it. If it has the old Gemini tran system, I would think about it, but would check the tran. system closely to make sure they still pull good. The Gemini, if not well cared for, could be nearing the end of it's life. The G2, is just getting broken in good.

the mower was built in 2000 i dont know if that helps....

That is probably a Gemini transmission then.
