12.5 b&S smokes bad then quits running

I have a 12.5 briggs and stratton in a small lawn tractor. It smokes really bad and only runs for a little while. I am thinking it is bad rings also I think I have some gas in my oil. any help would help greatly. thanks

If you have any sign of fuel (smell/thinned oil) the carb should be taken apart and cleaned and most likely a new float needle valve installed, Also shake the float to see if any fuel has seeped inside.

After the above clean/flush the fuel tank and lines install a new fuel filter then change the oil, Go with a straight weight oil instead of multi-weight.

A new air filter and spark plug would complete a engine service.
