Shipping used machines

Anyone got any experience with shipping used machines? Just wondering because I am constantly seeing deals I would buy if they were close to me, but driving halfway around the country makes them unaffordable. Is there a formula or a website that calculates shipping costs, or estimates cost at least? Just thinking that maybe that great deal would still be within reason if the shipping was a known variable.
Obviously, a $5000 machine for only $4000 is not a deal if it costs $1000 to get it here. But that 1 year old 60 inch ZTR with low hours for $2000 might be worth some shipping.

You can get an idea on shipping from freightquote.com. You need to know the size and weight, after that, they give you bids from a few sources.

uship.com is great. shipped 4 or 5 mowers through them. people will bid against each other to ship your stuff. could be anything from a freight company to an individual just coming through your area and wanting to make some extra money.
