I am just about to buy either a rc100 or an sr80.
The sr80 is brand new, the 100 has 600 hours on it and is alot cheaper.
Both are from the local dealer.

Just wondering if anyone has done any comparisons on these two machines?.
Pros and cons of each?.

I like the track system on the sr80 more, but it does have less hp.

Cheers

What do you plan on using it for? The RC100 is a much larger machine in terms of lifting capacity, engine hp, and machine weight. Also what condition is the used RC100 in? If the machine is in good shape it may be a good deal to get a larger machine for a lower price especially if machine weight isn't an issue. They are both about the same width.

For me, I think the 80 is the best machine, I have had mine for 2 years, the lower ground pressure and traction are amazing. But if you want mega Power, and probably the best high flow out there I would go with the 100.

I will be using mainly for moving and digging dirt. We lay alot of lawns and do residential siteworks etc.

The 80 is a better choice then.

I demo'd a SR80 last week. Real nice and plenty of power.

Did you test drive a Cat 287 or the Cat 297 before making up your mind

I saw an rc100 w/ cab go for 14,500 on ebay this week. I guess the main thing is what condition the undercarriage is in.

those would both fall into the RC100 size but the 277 is closer to the SR80.

Thanks for the advice.

I decided to get the sr80. I demoed them both, I thought that the visibility in the 80 was alot better to the sides. I also liked the lift up door and the better undercarriage.
It has less hp, but has alot more than I am used to anyway, I traded up from a bobcat 553.
I also got a 4n1 tilt bucket, but that wont come for about 4 weeks so the dealer is lending me the standard 4n1.

heater and ac is going to be alot nicer than a dusty or cold open cab that the 553 had, and I won't have to wear earmuffs the whole time.

Dang I wish I would have seen that, I could rebuild the whole thing and have less than 25 into it I bet. I have been looking for a used rc-30 and everyone is at least 13,000 around here. time and place i guess.

What's so special about the "tilt" bucket versus the "standard" bucket?

The tilt bucket tilts from left to right and right to left so that you can dig of horizontal.
Allows you to dig water tables etc

I went to demo the ASV 60 and 80 .Let me say this , the ASV dealer was also a Cat dealer. If they want to sell ASV's they shouldn't do it at a Cat dealer. The ASV's where nice till I got in the Cat. ASV who? I forgot all about ASV,after running those CATS

When did you do your demo? CAT dealers haven't sold ASV since ASV made the 4810 and the RC30 around the 1999 or 2000 timeframe. I can almost promise you that you probably didn't demo an SR80 at a CAT dealer that is still an authorized ASV dealer because the SR80 was just released around late 2006 to compete with the 277.

Yeh the Fabco dealer in the area here was one of the last Cat dealers to sell ASV's I think and they haven't for a quite while now. I am pretty sure they never sold SR styles.

I think it was around 05-06 .The Cat dealer was in Bear,Delaware ,Ransome Cat.They had the rc 50 rc60 and a 85 there. And I was told Cat owns ASV

I could be pretty sure they weren't a dealer at the time- 05-06. It is true that most of the CAT dealers did sell the ASV machines but that was before they came out with the MTLs and most of them only sold the 4810s, RC30s and the RC100 because I think the agreement that they had with ASV called for MTLs in between the RC30 and the RC100. I do beleive that FABCO up here in Wisconsin was the last CAT dealer and they were done before 05-06, I think until 2003-04. Maybe your CAT dealer got them in on trades. Quite a bit has changed over the years.

If your CAT salesman told you that CAT owns ASV he was feeding you a pretty big line. The biggest percentage of ASV that CAT ever owned was around 23.9%. Terex now owns 100% of ASV.

I would definitely put ASV's new PT60 against the CAT 247. Same engine, pretty much the same ROC, better balance, 11mph (two speed standard), lower ground pressure, more ground clearance, same lift height to pin, better visibility to the rear. I do think that the 247 is CAT's best MTL followed by the 277. The 257 and 287 were severely underpowered for their operating weights with too much of the machine's weight distribution toward the rear of the machine because they are vertical lift path machines.

If you deciding between thos 2 take the RC100. From a guy that fixes those day after day the SR is where the early RC30's were still being field tested. The 100's just dont break.

As far as 247 VS PT60 no competition, we blow the 247 away with RC50's due to the 50/50 weight displacement the ASV can push it backwards. The power to weigh is in favour of the ASV as well due to the 800kg mor metal afer the rear of the cat.
