i planted 5 of them in partial sun last summer they looked good now in the spring the one side on two of them are brown? what happend and canit be saved or just replace them

Could be some air pockets around the roots on the brown side. If all of the foliage is brown on one side you will probably not see any new growth on that side and will need to replace. Air pockets around the root ball will lead to dessication which may not show symptoms until being exposed to extended periods of sub freezing temperatures.

Thats good stuff PSUturf, also it could be spider mite or bagworm, here in S Jersey they can be bad in hotter temps.

Could be as simple as they were facing the wind all winter. See that a lot around here.

We had that happen from massive overwatering. Homeowner thought, if the irrigation system is good, also leaving a soaker hose across the rootballs 24/7 would be better.
