you mean wide tracks, narrow tracks have same weight smaller area there for more psi on the ground ie better grip, wide tracks are to float in soft underfoot conditions. not for grip

No gammon narrow tracks have less surface area then LGP tracks thus they will slide easier. That's why LGP machines work on steep slopes, etc. Your are correct about the lower ground pressure factor though.
