customer just built an addition on the side of their house and the excavator dumped all the sandy clay on her side yard...she now wants me to grade it and spread loam...is 6 inches of screened loam on top of the clay, sand and rocks going to be enough?

All the action for a good root system for a good lawn, takes place in the top 6-8 inches of soil. Pick up as many rocks as you can and you should be fine. Just make certain to till the new soil into the old. Good luck!

Yup! Be sure to not just throw new soils on an old or established base. Work the existing "junky" stuff up a bit and incorperate the new soil in to create good drainage and a good soil contact.
