Blade sharpening

I recently started sharpening my own blades because changing blades everyday and having them sharpened was getting too expensive. I'm using a bench grinder. Since I am new to this my question is: How do you know if you are sharpening correctly? How do you know if you are grinding at the correct angle.How sharp should the blades be? etc... Thanks for any help in this area.
