Well, I made a big purchase to start off the year today. A brand new, 2008 Everride Scorpion FX 34", 19 hp Kawasaki V-Twin. This is a great machine, and it complements my 2007 Everride Scorpion 52", 23 hp Kohler Command V-Twin very well. The FX doesn't catch on my trailer ramp like I thought it would. I just cruised around on it for a while tonight and I can already tell that I am going to love it! I am praying for a good year!

ITs a nice mower but compared to a stander...I would take the stander much better built..one thing i don't like is how small the standing plate is and how the hydro pumps are on the outside...

actually Jungle Jim's makes a plate extension. Think it's about $50ish. Couple that with the fact that I don't have a Stander dealer THAT I TRUST anywhere near me. Notice the three words in bold lettering.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Alarsh- you HAVE TO try an Everride! They are one of the best built machines I have ever seen. If you know Lano Equipment in Shakopee, MN, you know they don't sell sub-par equipment. Try it before you bash it! Exmark is even scared of them, Waconia Farm Supply was threatened if they started carrying Everrides, Exmark would drop them as a dealer. (Waconia Farm Supply is a HUGE Exmark dealer) I will take my Everrides against any Toro or Exmark!

The mower didn't even catch on my trailer ramp when I drove it up, I was impressed!

$4,900 w/ state taxes:cry:

I agree with Alarsh, Every company that makes Stander mowers just don't come close enough in the quality and design of the original designer Wright Mfg. If Everride gets to close then Wright will sue them just like they did to Great Dane when they went across the line and started imposing on designs, patents, and the structure of the Stander designed and built by Wright Mfg. in Maryland.

Nice machine i will say but they don't appear to be on the same level of quality and design of the Wright Stander.

I'm not trying to start a fight Alarsh. It's just that I get fed up with the Everride haters on this site that have never set foot on on one. I've never driven an Exmark or a Toro or a Scag, but do you see me bashing them? I DID drive Kubotas and Dixie Choppers. Hated the Chopper. Kubota, well it was more of a dealer issue with me more so than the machine. With the Everride, I loved the way it performed on my demo and I really like my dealer. Those two things really sold me on the Everride.

PerfectEarth

You can't compare a 36" Wright floating deck with the rapid height, if you are going to compare Everride and Wright, take the 32" Wright fixed deck against my 34" Everride Scorpion FX. And I TESTED BOTH Wright and Everride, and when it came down to it, the Everride was better in my opinion.

Enforcer-- I'm not trying to bash your equipment or anything. I know your a good kid but in this business you have to have great equipment to stay in biz and be reliable. Saving a buck here or there on the purchase is insignificant when you are running a machine for 2000 + hours. Having problems with equipment costs you big bucks when you lose an account because you haven't shown up. It is always a good idea to stay with main stream well known, proven machines when such a large percentage of your income is going to be based of their use. Just looking out for you bro.

everride and great dane are nut for bolt, the same machine. Decals and powdercoat are the only differences.

The pictures you are comparing of the wright and everride are apples and oranges. You are showing a picture of the rapid height stander, not the fixed deck model. Look at those hydro hoses hanging out there and the spring for the rear deck support readding to get caught on something.......

You guys are bashing these mowers and here's a guy who owns and cuts with one telling you they are good, but you still don't listen. Dead issue. Stop defending your mowers guy. You have two nice pieces of equipment. Let these guys go out and buy what they want (and overpay in most cases).

My 52" stripes pretty good, I need to adjust the deck on my new FX so the back of the deck is lower than the front of the deck, thus creating a better stripe in the grass.

That may or may not make it stripe better, but it will certainly make it cut WORSE and take more power to do it.

ALWAYS use a slight front rake.

O.K.

But your going to be ripping the grass rather than cutting it. Plus you'll be using more fuel and horsepower than if you'd be setting the deck up properly.

Cut quality is #1....ALWAYS.

If a stripe is produced, it's a bonus.

In the summer, it's easy to pack a lot of calories. The heat and all the mowing work sort of give you a false sense of how much you need. Well, I've been trying to get that lawn to stripe for about 3 years and it never works. This is the best the lawn has looked since it was slit seeded 4 years ago, so I thought I would take a pic for the homeowners (they are in Hawaii for 2 weeks). The landscaper who did all the work(it wasn't me!) did a ****** job, and it is kinda tough to get this FX to stripe well, but I'll figure it out in time.

lift up the front casters and put 3 washers on top and 3 on bottom and then set the deck to the middle holes and you will get great stripes with that my 52 scorpion fx stripes awesome. I will post some pics later of mine.

They don't make a striping kit, but I think Jungle Jim's makes one, I can't remember if it works on a stander or not, I'd have to check. The lawn does look better in person, pictures don't do justice. I may get new signs this summer since I am going to take off the side ramp since I can't use it with my new stander.

You can't make the stripes perfect if there is a big tree ring in the middle of the lawn, you can get close, but it's tough. The lawn also make look weird because I bagged it up and I drove over the area shown a lot when I was emptying the bagger.

Just trying to help you kids out. I see random light and dark wheel marks that lead me to believe you (or your Dad) were lap mowing or simply mowing at random.

The marks are from K turns at the end of the rows, the curb is about 6 inches below the bottom of the pic, and I know they aren't straight, there are tons of holes and dips in that lawn which really throw you off, and to my Dad (who didn't help me on this lawn) my brother (who did work for me for a year), and my girlfriend said it looks like I turned around at the end of each row and that I didn't drive in circles and cut in the round. It's fine, you didn't bother me, it's just that I was pointing out that you were not correct in saying that I drove in a round pattern while mowing. I know you are a vet of the industry and you have good advice. The mower is still new to me and I am seeing what works and what doesn't.

Its not difficult to cut around trees and obsticals in the middle of a lawn. You just gotta go around it once before you finish your back and forth mowing stripes in order to blend it in and keep the lines straight and same width.

Ok, I was just saying that he was wrong when he said I was lap mowing, and there is no way to prove I was lap mowing, so his comment was wrong. The cut quality of my Everrides is just as good as any machine I've demoed, pictures just don't do justice. As for the "little brat" comment, I still don''t know what you mean by that. All you have to do is go up to the tree as far as possible, then go around it only halfway with the trim side of the mower going up against the tree ring or whatever. Then do the exact same on the other side for your next pass. The key is to not go around the whole tree as it will leave marks and not look as good.

You know, if you had bought an exmark, you wouldnt have to worry about getting that mower all set up to stripe...it would have done it from the factory. Not being to harsh but that lawn should have some nice stripes and it kinda just looks like you were driving all over the place:dizzy:

Well, if I would've bought an Exmark like I was looking at, it would've had a smaller deck and engine than my 52" Scorpion, and it would've cost $2,000 more. The Exmark dealer really pissed me off when they didn't show up 3 times when they said they would bring a mower for me to demo. My dealer support I have with my Everrides is amazing! They are good mowers, I'll have to get some pics of my 34" stripes, it does lay some descent stripes, I just need some pics of a different lawn. I did demo an Exmark, Kubota, Toro, and a Wright, and my Dad and myself liked the Everride the best.

Im not an awesome fabricator but Im willing to try. I guess Im starting to see you point I would have to make sure things like the engine and hydros are still the same distance apart so I can use an OEM belt. I dont know if I will seriously go through with it but I just bought a 16 HP briggs v twin off craigslist the other day for and I haven't even figured out what Im going to do with it. Bill wright was able to do it so why can I try? The way I look at things is anything you want to do can be done Provided 3 things,
1. You have the right tools
2. You have time to work on whatever it is
3. You are motivated to go and do whatever it is instead of wasting you time watching tv or on Lawnsite LOL.
I did decide today that If I do go through with my mower I am going to call it a Right Standar. I wouldn't try to sell it so I don't think I would have a problem with patents. Then again Im not a patent laywer.

Just curious I have the great dane version of your scorpion fx 52. What height do you guys cut at? You said that you have your spacers set up three on top and three on bottom so what set of holes do you have the deck mounted in on the back? Currently I cut at 3.5" with one spacer on top and five down under with the rear of the deck mounted in the middle set of holes thats how it came from my dealer. The cut is absolutely flawless but it tends to clump coming right out of the chute so im wondering if adjusting the rake will help this. I dont have this problem with either of my encores, but they have a different style of deck. Do you guys have this problem?

Flat Top will have to answer the FX questions for you. My floating deck 52" that I changed the rake on cut beautifully until I mowed in the pouring rain and the deck got full of wet grass and then it threw clumps a little bit.

I feel blessed to have her, she is the best thing that has happened to me (besides the killer deal on my Shindaiwa trimmer last year! j/k) I have a '76 Yamaha XS 360, it's a fun cruiser for in town, but it kinda sucks on the highway. It's a fun and zippy little machine but I usually ride my Dad's '81 Honda Goldwing 1100, it is a total monster!

I hate to tell you, but you don't learn much at all on online classes. I took 3 this past semester, and 3 in class. Only take the classes which are the college requirements and electives. Trust me, you'll learn more in class, if thats what your looking for.

Ok, here is my statement. I demoed Wright and for some reason I didn't like it. It just didn't feel right to me and my dad. And my dealer support with Everride is a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. I don't really care what anybody thinks about my mowers. I love them, they work well for me and I wouldn't trade them in for a Wright. 260 hours on my Scorpion 52" and ZERO problems, not even a tiny problem. Perfection from the day I bought it. I've worked it really hard and it hasn't complained once. My 34" FX is even more amazing, big power, clean cut, fast and responsive. I don't want to turn this thread into a "which one is better" thread. Take that childish crap elsewhere, I like my Everrides, and that's it. If you have had good luck with Wrights, great! I'm happy that they worked out for you, but I have my opinion, and it stays with Everride.

The 34 is incredible. ZERO complaints at all, it's fast, cuts well, and has a lot of power. $5,000 seems like a little much for a machine like this, but now I think it is completely worth it.
Actually they haven't even started cleaning up, it's still smoking. Every other day they dump water on this one corner that always seems to flare up. They had to go back 2 other times after the initial fire because it flared up again. The fire was on July 2, and it's still smoldering!
