I'm wondering what kind of mpg your getting pulling a trailer.

Please post what size trailer you are pulling, and about how much weight.

Thanks

WOW! I think I'll stick with the diesel even if it does cost more.

I got that with my Chevrolet pickup (gas) pulling 10,000 pounds of trailer and old truck into a strong headwind.

02 2500hd Chev 10.5MPG empty. W/ trailer 3000LB. average 8.5MPG. Yep it had the 6.0L gasser and 4.11 gears.

93 3500 Dodge 5.9 auto 4x4 DRW w/4.10 gears. Almost the same mileage +-10%

Heck, my old ass Chevy 3/4 ton with the 350 gets 10 mpg pretty easy pulling the 16' trailer with 2 Z's on it.

Do the math, the better MPG you get with diesel still is cheaper even though the fuel cost is more. I would not waste time with a gas truck if you will be pulling a lot. I have a 2006 2500HD duramax as well as a 2005 2500HD with the 6.0L gas(chip, headers, cam, intake, ect.) and after doing the math the duramax is cheaper to run than the gas truck.

Also looking to get rid of my 98 Dodge 2500 5.9L gas.

Just talked to a smaller LCO yesterday, who is filling up his 3/4 chevy gasburner 4 times a week running a single axle 6x10 trailer. When I told him I was filling up once a week towing a tandem axle lawn Maintenance trailer with the front 4'x8 of the trailer filled with grass & yard debris. He could not believe it; I then have to explain how I am doing it. I have virtullay eliminated oil change's $25.00 for oil anaylsis at 20,00 mile intervals, 7qt PML rear Dana 70 differential cover Amsoil synthetic 75w-140 severe gear oil and $50.00 a season for fuel filters, thats it for maintenace on the Cummins for 2 years to date. Averaging 15MPG towing with the the air conditioning on, city or highway stop & go traffic, I can also throw 2 2,000lb pallets of sod or landscape rock on the trailer and still get 12-14MPG, and pass the gas burnes daily. I sold my Dodge 2500 V-8 magnums off, and went diesel saving money now. I have had more questions this season from other LCO running gasoline than any other year. The overall majority of LCO running gasoline trucks, that i have talked to want to switch to diesel.

I drive a 85 dodge 1 ton crew cab dually. I get 8mpg in town towing a 16 foot trailer. I was running a 318 but I have replace with a 440 v8 the engine does not work as hard and I get the same fuel mileage the 318 does. I keep telling you guy it is not worth running a small v8 if you are working it. You have no power and the engine has to work itself into the ground to create the power. The only way to get better fuel milage is to go to a 5.9 diesel cummins

the neighbor had an 04 2500 Hemi, he does power washing, pulling his trailer, 7MPG. 13MPG best without pulling it.

The diesel option in a new truck adds about $6000 to the cost of the truck, thats a lot of gas, even at todays prices.

a 3/4 ton dodge? well I have one of those. a 1998, ext cab long bed, well it's a dump bed now... But it has a V-10 in it and gets about 5 to 6 MPG. Gets closer to 7, if I'm lucky, if not pulling a trailer at all. Of course all this truck does is pulls the lawn rig.

Oh, trailer size: 8.5 x 20, with 1 MT walker, 1 MS walker and 1 61" grasshopper, plus all the "extra" stuff" No idea on the actual total weight though.

I'm just getting into the business and got a great deal on my 1997 2500 gasser. Came with a plow and alot of other goodies, only 43k original miles. My trailer is only about 12 feet long and I haven't started purchasing equipment yet.

thats odd. i took my 3500 dually with the v-10 to sc and brought back 410 trees in a 28' aluminum gooseneck and averaged 13 mpg. my gross weight loaded was just over 18000 lbs.

Well WTF is wrong with my Dodge??? Why is it sucking fuel like it is? I've removed the cat and put a flowmaster muffler on, that didn't help at all... I replaced the standard paper air filter for a K&N and that didnt help... I try to drive "easy" because I know that when it kicks into passing gear the gas guage goes the opposite direction.

All of my driving is stop and go though. And that's a LOT different then driving at one speed on the highway. Every time I have to accelerate back up to driving speed it's a huge negative on the fuel economy. And in this town you have to stop every couple blocks it seems, and as soon as you think you are going to actually 'cruise' some ass stops in front of me to turn and then I have to accelerate again.

Hey packy how are you getting such good gas mileage with your truck Mine gets like six tops. Pulling anything emty or 21000 pounds it doesn't matter.

Are you guys doing regular maintenance on your trucks? Something is wrong if you're only getting 6mpg and not even towing.

I have 2 dodges, 1991 250 ram 360(dump insert, vac, mulch/leaf truck/plow) and a 2007 1500 quad cad hemi with a boss regular duty 7'6" plow. The hemi gets 10.9 while towing 7x12 enclosed and 14 while not towing. The 1991 gets 8. towing or not.

The sick of it is, my 1986 D-250 w/ the 318 CARB'd used to get 14 hitched!
It didn't have near the power the magnum does, but this 11.x mpg on an EFI is ridiculous.
ALL that extra technology and what we get out of it is worse fuel economy?
