I have a new house and it was built in September. When they were clearing the lot they saved a hardwood tree, but not without damaging it a bit. The tree is about 6-8 inches in diameter at the trunk level and is probably 20 feet high. It has a 3x6 in gash about 1/2 in deep at one part. In addition, im sure the roots were damaged a bit as well as there were a couple pine trees up against it that were removed. They tree lost its leaves about 2-4 weeks early last fall and within the last 2 weeks the tree has had new leaves sprout. However, they are already wilting. Can this tree be saved????

The odds are stacked against it. At this point you might shop around for a comparable, if not better, replacement tree.

Afraid you might say that.

Thanks,

I will add to that and agree with Eric. Time for a replacement. The time to protect trees is before construction begins. The soil around the roots probably got compacted from heavy equipment as well.
