(1) On replacing/repairing small (<250 sqft) sections of centepede, should I cut out completely dead stuff (owner over-fertilized), rototill, or just layer on top? (It's on a slope, and the owner already started layering).

(2) what are typical rates for sod patching? I got local rates for wholesale sod, but I am unfamiliar with labor/time and any rental materials I should expect to use.

Sod replacement is my last frontier in lawn care. I always refer out, but I figure why not learn? It's just a bunch of dirt with grass on it, right?

for sod, i charge about 75 cents per square foot for the final grade, the sod, and laying it down, if i have to add topsoil or change the grade i charge more

I would lightly till and cut a clean edge against the good grass.
You will have too match grades so that the new sod and old sod match up(height wise).
Patching takes more time than laying on bare dirt.
