Have any of you guys dealt with these? How quickly will they ruin a lawn? Best way to get rid of them? Prevent them?

I believe one of my clients has them in the back yard though I am not 100% certain. Anyone see them in NH?

Thanks for all the help!

The older (4 th instar) Larve or "Leather Jackets" come above ground at night in the spring (Warmer and Moist), much the same way as a cutworm or Sod Webworm Larve.

Apply a granular like Talstar now, at rate for Webworm/Cutworm, and don't water/mow, for 24-48 hours after application.

1 Generation a year....Larva damage period is Sept - July. (mild winters)

Aug-Mid Sept is Adult Crane Fly.....Mated Females lay eggs within 24 hours of emerging......Maggot sized larva hatch and feed on roots, rhizomes and foliage....2 Weeks after eggs are laid.

Hope that helps,

Pete
