Depends what model I'm sure, but I had a Bobcat 709 backhoe mounted on a 763, and it worked okay.

I used to have one myself worked good, but not nearly as good as if did with my 864. The weight makes a big difference.

another question is can you use a 3 pt hitch adapter to mount a 3pt hitch backhoe on a bobcat? would it be strong enough?

I would nix that idea and get a mini excavtor much better option for the long run. My gehl dealer was telling me of a guy who wanted to sell his backhoe attachment pretty much right after he got it and get a mini.

Unless you are buying a bobcat 709 backhoe, don't even waste your money. A backhoe is the most abusive attachement on a bobcat. Unless you have the backhoe mounting kit and a bobcat brand backhoe. You will rip the quick tack plate and angle cylinder right off the machine. A backhoe must attachet to the machine in 3 places
