trimmer runs fine when cold, but when it has been running for 10-15 minutes it dies and won't start again.

my 85 does the same thing, haven't had time to let the mech look at it.

Its most likely the coil I had to replace mine after 2yrs heavy use

Ditto on the ignition module suggestion. My FS85 exhibited the same problem, and a new module solved the problem.

how would you check if it is the ignition module

well you would have to get it hot then when it dies on ya be quick and check the spark. but you can count on one thing if a lot of people tell ya its the coil it gona be the coil. and i am telling ya also its the coil. big problem for the 80's/85's great line trimmers dont get me wrong, the BEST their ever was but weak in the coil.
opps i loked at you thread again. and you did not mention the model# but if its a 4-mix they also have problems with the coil as well.

Ditto that!!!!! I trash canned mine and went with a different brand. The stihl 4mix is by far the worst!!!!!! IMO
