Any recommendations to get rid of whitefly on hibiscus? Have used orthene but it defoliates them.

I used Malathion in south Texas for white flies on gardenias, etc.

Merit, the best chemical for white flies. Well worth the money.

How much Orthene are you using? I have never had a problem with defoliation. On the other hand, malathion will defoliate hibiscus. It is also the worst insecticide possible for whitefly. No residual and it is toxic to those exposed to it. I often aquire accounts with hibiscus infested with mealybug, mites, scales and whitefly. My usual rotation is week 1 Talstar + Ultrafine Oil, week 3 Orthene + LI700, week 5 Avid, Sevin, + Ultrafine Oil. If it is only a matter of sucking insects and no mites, Merit via drench or soil injection.

as long as it is not under stress (been too dry lately) there should be no problem. You sure of whitefly? That is the least problem i would think to have on hibiscus now. Use a merit drench should tale you through the summer.
