A think a more appropriate question would be:
Are they making enough profit to justify all their equipment costs over the years???

It has been said time and again before that there are solo operators who make more profit per hour than the larger companies.

Its truely hard to speculate as to the efeectiveness of the operation. Do they have too much equipment or is there actually not enough???

I personally know of a contractor who has an '86 1-ton stakebed, 10 ft mowing trailer, 48 Z, (2) 36 wbs, (1) hh blower, (1) line trimmer. He also has a late 80s Ford (F-700???), 16' eager beaver trailer, NH skid steer, Kubota tractor with several implements, various saws etc, ...

My point is this small of a set-up yeilds approximately 38-40% profit with four employees. Owner is full time sales and doesnt do any labor in the field.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

What's the purpose of this question? An equipment list?

Doesn't say what kind of work you do to justify this amount of equipment. Doesn't say revenues, time involved, nothing.

I don't get it.

If you just wanted to list this stuff to show off?

Whatever.

I think it's a wish list. You can remember in detail, down to the model number, most of your equiptment but you can't remember what size cut your one oddball mower has? Also the Echo PB260L is a backpack blower, not a handheld.

(Actually, this mower is both. It goes from a 36, and folds down to a 52, I believe.);)

Do a search on Matt .B and you'll realize he is FOS.

All that equipment and only 6 employees?

You must have alot of equipmet laying around.

Gateway drops down into a 52" deck from a 32".

They called it Gateway so it can be moved through a gate opening and still get a 52" cut. So he was right on that one Richard.

My bad!

Actually I was a little confused by all of the words used to describe one lawnmower.

"Great Dayne Hydro 52” or 36” Gateway Walk Behind"

I knew that Great Dane makes hydros. I just figured that he either had a 52" hydro Great Dane or a 36" Great Dane Gateway.

If he had said "Great Dane 52/32 Gateway" or even "Great Dane Gateway" I would have known exactly what he was talking about.

The mind is the first thing to go when you get old like me.

What did you use before the 650's. Did they all retire at the same time?

Sounds like someone telling stories. I dont even know half the names of equipment I have... I dont have nearly the amount of his so called equipment list and my fresh young memory cant name the first 15 peices. So it sounds like someone is naming what they wish to have.

Kent Lawns
12-16-2001, 09:01 PM
Right on casey!

I was wondering the same thing...

...being that the 650 came out in July, did he buy 5 and throw away his old ones? or sell them mid-summer?

... I cannot imagine he neglected to mention some of his equipment.

The way I see it, this forum benefits from an open and honest exchange of ideas and that doesn't fit you (Matt .B) then hit the road.

Did any one notice that almost all the models numbers are praticly new to this year.

13 blowers, he will need more than that to clean up after all the other tools and equipment he said.

5 Peco vacs for only 4 mowers.

Side Walk Edger’s 1. Echo. Doing all that work and only 1 edger.

Debris System Mngt Truck (with 7yrd dump) Don't you think he would know what this truck is also.

18ft Ball
16ft Ball 14 mowers and he hauls them all on 2 trailers.

Truck Sprayers
2. Finn 300gal. Wouldn't this be a hydro seeder?

Snow Plows

2. 10ft Boss V-Plows
3. 9’2”Boss V-Plows 5 plows fo 9 trucks. And I thought boss didn't make a 10' v plow.

This is a bis miss match of equipment also. I think he sent his wish list to the wrong place.

You will be waiting a long time for pictures, or he will go to the dealer and take them.

Damn he will need close to 45 employees to run that stuff.

And with 9 truck at 3 to a truck where will they all sit.

Blower ratio seems reasonable.
Claims 13 mowers so the Peco ratio could be correct (Don't use Pecos, not sure the fit)
1 edger is iffy but depending on props the 11 string trimmers could work.
Claims 5 trailers. Can't he haul with the pintle?

BUT
4 long shaft non-articulating hedge trimmers & nothing else??

LAWNGODFATHER
12-24-2001, 12:02 AM
It's not common but yes, so then what is he going to haul all the other stuff with.

casey waiste of time debating this guy FOS!!! comes to mind.
