I've found a dealer I'm comfortable with in my area (Hagerstown MD) and am trying to narrow down the model choices. I'm focusing on residential and commercial models in a 42" - 48" configuration (MFT, FasTrak, FasTrak SD, mini Z). This ZTR will be used mostly for trimming close to the house and around obstacles, where my 33HP New Holland utility tractor does a poor job. I'll continue to use the tractor for bush hogging and other purposes on our 16+ acres (mix of hayfields, woods, tall grass meadow, lawn on mostly about a 7 percent grade)

We do have a creek and pond so I'm concerned about the safety of operating ANY ride-on mower that does not have ROPS protection.

It appears the Hustler residential ZTRs do not accept ROPS. Correct? What is the least expensive 42"-48" model that does?

Correct kind of....
The FasTrak series does not accept a ROPS.
The FasTrak Super Duties in 48", 54" and 60" do accept a ROPS.
So the FasTrak SD 48" would fit your needs and also has a ROPS option.
Here is the information.

FasTrak Super Duty 23HP Kaw / 48" STD model # 928374 MSRP $6,699.00
Kit, FT Super Duty ROPS, includes seat belt, part # 601439 MSRP $319.00
