ditch the f-250 superduty. why do you need a huge truck like that if youre solo?

I do that in two weeks! Others probably do that in a week. Welcome to the industry.

The only thing I have purchased gas for is for my truck, sometimes when my dad gets home, he grabs 4 cans and fills them up while the prices are going up, He does that when I'm out mowing or something, I go take the cans to go fill them up, and there is already gas for them. So I don't complain.

Thats around $25 a day if you're going 7 days a week, and around $34 a day if going 5 days a week. Which runs at 6-7 gallons a day or 9 or so, which is not bad at all for your truck and equipment. It's bad that gas is $4 a gallon its a freakin joke.

No way... i Love my truck, besides its only a reg cab with 5.4L engine and i need it for winter when i plow. I dont care if gas goes to 10$ a Gallon i love my truck. I wasnt really bitching about the gas { well yes i was } but not enough to let my truck go!! Besides i am also pulling a 8x16 ft enclosed trailer and thats why i need the big truck!

I am running a super duty with a 5.4 pulling a Bri-Mar 7x12 dump trailer.I am only getting 8.5 with it right now.$138.00 to fill it.I am doing a couple of big mulch jobs and am basically more than covering my gas with the delivery charge.I can carry 8 yds of mulch in my trailer.I am charging $5/yd over my cost for delivery.Does that seem reasonable ? At $700 for gas you had better be making some money or stop running to Dunkin Donuts. I use an Escort for my runner.

Don't ditch your truck! Plowing is the best part of the business, and that truck will make a great plower.

No matter if the customer pays for it or not... it still sucks filling up the truck and mowers. hate forking over so much money. especially while plowing! :hammerhead: talk about sucking gas... but anyways. I only put a little bit in at a time so I never have the shell-shock of a full tank fill-up.

Its kinda pointless to have an f250 with a 5.4..

in the f150 its a great engine..but no reason to get an f250 with a 5.4..To each his own I guess though.

Although diesel is far more expensive between the fuel and the option to get the engine from the intitial buy I still get 16mpg pulling around my 7x16 enclosed weighing in at the 6500# range. buy the truck used and you dont have to pay for the $7000 option for diesel. Anyway, I dont want this to turn into a diesel vs thread but i only have to fill my chevy diesel up once evey week and the ford about once every week and a half to two. I wish Kawasaki could make little 15 HP diesel engines for the walkbehinds. that would be pretty cool!

could you imagine the footprint the walkbehind would have to have to compensate for the extra weight? that would be funny.

Well, I understand that the customer is paying for it, but not until the end of the month when their check gets deposited into my bank accnt. It just sucks seeing that much money come out of the accnt or go onto a credit card and see it gone by the next day.

I used to laugh at the fact that my ex's car and my Hustler both had a 12 gallon capacities and I could fill them both up for under $40.00 a few years ago. Now I can't even fill my hustler up for under $40.00. It just makes me glad that my clients pay for my gas.

I spend between $75 and $100 for my Ram 1500, trailer and 2 mowers. Hearing this, I feel lucky. I wonder how much more I'll have to spend if I change and get a trailer about 5 foot longer and add another 500 lb mower.
