i was wondering what the going rate for mulching these days is. my one costomer ordered 12yards that she wants me to spred how much should i charge.

You only charge 50 a yard if you supply the mulch? So you pay for the mulch, bring it to their house and lay it for 50 bucks per yard?? That is wayyy to low, in my area labor rates are low and you still wouldnt catch anyone charging that little. If i pay (or supply) for the mulch and deliver it, I charge 70 dollars a yard installed. Unless you are ******ed or have knuckledragger employees, you should be able to lay about 1.5 to 2 yards per man hour but you should be charging by a yard a manhour as stated by another poster.
If you are paying for/ bringing the mulch 12yards x 70 = 840
If the mulch is already there... 12yards x 35 = 420

40 a manhour is what I base my rates on as well since it is hard to ask for more for something that requires no gas, equipment or skill. I would try to bring your own mulch so that you can mark it up or make money off the difference between regular price and landscaper discount. Good luck.

$95 per yard edged, weeded, price of mulch ($24 per yard) delivered and spread. All included. If they have the mulch delivered (to bad its cheaper for me to buy and deliver) I subtract my mulch price not the one they paid ($32?) so 71 per yard. Just did a 19 yard job $1805 7 hours - price of mulch wish everyday was like that.

dont buy bags it much more expensive and i dont think the quality is as good i think a bag is 2 cubic feet and i think there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard so you do the math

I charge $65 per yard minimum, but edge as required. With the Edgemaster it only takes a few extra minutes to make things look textbook (If you don't have one, invest in one.) and after you grind off a few sprinkler heads, you remember where they are. :hammerhead:

I'd charge my hourly rate for a job like that. Like someone else said, you can spread about 1 yard per hour solo. So, if your rate is $40 and you wanted to spread 4 yards, then it would be $40x4=$160.

How many cu. ft. were those bags? Most of what I see is 2 cu. ft., but it's usually just over $2 a bag at Lowe's. Assuming the bags were 2 cu. ft., that would be 48 bags @ $5.09 = $244.32. I really hope the bags were bigger than 2 cu. ft., otherwise you were worse than slave labor.

I usually price about $50/yd for mulch. A lot of folks around here like the mini pine nuggets, which I can get for $22/yd. I can comfortably haul 4 yards on my 16" trailer without building sides. I just lay down two tarps, dump the mulch on, and strap two more tarps on top. If I order a truckload (15 yds), I get free delivery. If not, there is a $55 delivery charge. I estimated a job back in March that came to 13 yards, but I ordered 15 and saved $1 by not paying delivery fees and spread it a little thicker. I also charged for spreading 15 yards, so it worked out nicely.

these were 3 cu ft bags...grade A cedar bark mulch. Bought it wholesale. $5.09 a bag.
Cost me $152.00. Charged customer $225.00. Took 1 hour to install with 2 guys. Little cheap, 1.5 million dollar house...1st job, trying to get in the door....

Our mulch varies from about 25 a yard to 58 a yard for the materials only. We did 20 yards last week at around 1500. I just bid one at 26 yards for 2800(different more expensive mulch) You can lay it fast but it really depends on the area. Wide open areas are easier than small planted garden areas. Charge accordingly!

Us too. I do not charge under $70.00, it is usually $75-to 90.00 range per yard. I am very surprised to read some of the rates everybody else is charging, pretty low.

I have had some big mulch jobs this year.Have had to hump some up steep hills where we put a rope on the front of a whellbarrow.Others was dumped right along the drive.My worst case was 1 yd per hr,my best case was 3yds per hr with just me.So figure 1-2 yds per hr and use your per hr rate.I have not had anyone complain this year and I have made out so far.My worst job I doubled the mulch price and made out like a bandit ---- about $75/hr.My normal rate is $45/hr but I have been making closer to $55-60 when I bid.

i charge 110 per yard with confidence some complain some donot. as a rule, old mulch is coming up, extra charge. edge is extra i usually do not charge for fabric and i am considering going to chems instead of fabric and may not charge for it

I've got a Mantis tiller and recently ordered their bed edger attachment. It's a wheel for one side and a straight tine blade on the other. I bent every other tine just a little so it makes a wider trench. The kit was about $45, which may be high for what it is, but it's less than the rental fee for a Bed Edger.

I usually go 55-60 a yard to supply mulch and install. just did 10 yards the other day for 550, mulch cost me about 250. I try to make 25-30 per yard just on install. I work full time for fertilizing company and do this on the side for m customers. on average i can do about 3 yards per hour.
