Hi everyone,

a client wants to convert part of her lawn into a veggie garden. Her concern is the fertilizer application around one year around. The previous owners bought a fertilizer for farming from a local farmers store. They said its pretty strong. How long is fertilizer existent in the soil? Once I take the sod off, is there still fertilizer in the soil?

Thanks for your input!

Won't matter. Have at it. Get a soil test if you must. Gardens need fert too.

Plants uptake the same nutrients regardless.

Soluble ferts don't last long at all. Mostly they leech out.

Kill area with r -up. wait approx. 10days give or take. Granular fert will last depending on the make up of it, 4 to 6 weeks.
