killing bermuda

Hey all,
I will be back filling a newly installed retaining wall next weekend. (pic attached) The fill will come out about 12ft from the fence. once filled the space will be used as flower beds. What is the best method for killing all the grass before back filling? The tree in the picture will also be raised about a foot.
