I am going to be trying scotts Turf Builder with Weed and Feed. I got a Half bag from my father-in-law for free. I looked at the directions on when to spread it, but as volatile as the weed and feed is I was wondering if there are any onther recommendations.
I know it has to go onto a moist law (either with dew or spray water on before application)
It has to have a day temp of at least 60 degrees.
It must be applied in the morning when the weeds are growing.
It cannot rain for 24 hours.
You must mow it 2-3 day before hand.
Questions:
What about the night temp? Is this a factor?
Is the weed n feed more effective when the temp's are higher?
Should I not Weed and Feed and just fertilize?
Some other notes are that the grass is mostly BG with a small amount of Fescue and Rye. I live in the Midwest. The weeds I am trying to get rid of include Chicweed, Creaping Charlie, Purple Bells, and dandelions.
Thanks for your help.

Even as a pro I've NEVER had any luck with weed and feeds. I feel your much better off using a fertilizer then applying a liquid weed control such as weed b gone from a pump sprayer.
I'm glad to hear your reading labels. That's a great place to start.
Good luck

...and likewise, don't mow AGAIN until 2-3 days afterward.
What about the night temp? Is this a factor?
Not specifically 'nighttime' temperature, but overall "average" soil temperature.
But if you don't have a soil thermometer to gage it...Typically dry selective weed controls start doing alot better when daytime temps consistently stay in the middle to upper 70's...and the nighttime temps stay up in the middle 50's, at least.
Is the weed n feed more effective when the temp's are higher?
Yes. To a degree. But MOST selective weed controls, whether dry OR liquid, work the same way : They literally GROW the plant to death !!
So if you get to a point to where the turf is in some type of drought stress due to heat / lack of water..then weed control results will be almost non-existant, and may even cause DAMAGE.
Should I not Weed and Feed and just fertilize?
Because you say you have weeds. :)

If you have bunches "smothering" type weeds like chickweed and 'creeping charlie' ( a.k.a. ground ivy) to battle, then your REAL PROBLEM isn't so much that you have too many weeds, it's that you probably have too little TURF !!
....so therefore, you may want to consider some renovation/seeding work come mid-August of this year...which is the CORRECT time to do it...despite what the Scott's marketing-goofball on the radio Ashton Richie might tell you !!
