We Took A Jd 830 27 Hp With 60" Deck A Jd 850 31hp With 60" Deck And A Scag Tt 27hp With 60" Deck To The Same Property Mowed The Same Thick Grass With A Pretty Steep Hill Today. The 830 Had A Little Not Too Much Drop In Blade Speed 850 No Drop In Blade Speed And Scag With No Drop In Blade Speed. What We Found Out Was There Was No I Repeat No Difference In Cut Quality. Measured The Deck Pullys On All Three Scag Had A 6.5" Pully Jd 830 7" And The 850 Was A Deck From A 820 Before Jd Relized It Was The Wrong Deck Size With A 6.5" Pully On It. We Will Try The 6.5" Pully On The 830 Thursday And See What Happens. Any Body Have Any Other Ideas We Should Try?

THEY TOOK A DECK OFF ONE OF THE 820'S WE EXCHANGED FOR THE 830'S WE ARE CURENTLY RUNNING.

I DIDNT HAVE TIME TO CHECK OUT THE OVER ALL MACHINE TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE BUT ONE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS THE REAR DECK WHEELS HIT THE REAR TIRE WHEN MOWER DECK IS RAISED. MAYBE WIDER TIRES ON THE 850 OR A WIDER STANCE.VERY POWERFUL MOWER THAT WAY THOUGH.

Niner, whats the reason for the smaller deck pulley ? More blade speed? Price aside 830 or the scag which one do you like better? ive been looking to get 2 mowers A walker ghs and a ztr possibly a deere. My dealer sells both and he prefers the deere.

YEAH TRIING TO GET MORE BLADE SPEED. ITS GOING TO COST CLOSE TO $8000.00 MORE TO REPLACE THE 8 JD 830'S WE HAVE WITH SCAG AND THEY ARE CUTTING JUST LIKE JD. THE DEALER HERE SELLS BOTH ALSO BUT I WOULD LIKE TO WORK THINGS OUT WITH THE JD THEY TREAT US WELL.
WE USED TO RUN SCAG ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO. WENT TO TORO FOR A FEW YEARS THEN TO THE DEERE HAD LOTS OF PTOBLEMS WITH 757'SA THE PAST THREE YEARS SWITCHED TO 820'S THIS YEAR HAD THEM REPLACED WITH 830'S AND WORKING OUT THE BUGS.

Ok Tried The 6.5" Pulleys On The Mower Deck Was Some Improvement In Cut Quality And Very Little Blade Speed Reduction Going Up Hill. The 757's Has A 6" Pully System On Them. Iam Going To See If The Dealer Can Get Me Some 6' Pullys And Check Into Seeing If The Clutch Off The757 Will Fit Because It Also Is 6" Or If They Can Get One. I Am Thinking If This Set Up Is Possible And Get The Engine Rpm's Up 6500 Or 6550 Problem Will Be Solved. Anybody Have Any Input? It Will Be Greatly Be Appreciated.

That engine RPM sounds a little fast. Try 3750 RPM (no load).

Smaller blade sheave will raise blade tip speed but also consume more hp.

Blade tip speed isn't everything. The 7 Iron does pretty well without modification.

RPMS on Deere's Z820a is recommended at 3650. I probably wouldn't try anything over 6000. Maybe if you put a turbo on it. LOL

I lower my rpm (blade speed) all the time will no noticable effect in cutting. (Scag/Exmark).

Why you ask? Well if I'm close to a bed and want to decrease the distance of the discharge. If it's wet a lower RPM does a better job. Maneuvering in small area's.

NOT IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY WITH 8.5 TO 9 INCHES OF RAIN IN THE MONTH OF MAY SO FAR. 5" IN ONE DAY. GRASS IS THICK AND TALL WE CANT MOW TOO MANY LAWNS UNDER 4" THATS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS EITHER NOT GETTING THE SUCTION NEEDED OR NEED MORE TIP SPEED.

Any One Who Wants The Sluggish Problem Fixed Call Your Dealer And Get Them To Call The Engineers To Make Some 6" Pullys Made For Youre 830's. I Am Going To See If I Can Find A 757 And Try The Whole Spindle Assembly Out Cause They Changed Those So You Cant Interchange The Pullys.

Deere has stopped production on several of the 800 series units until the bugs get worked out.
