I am looking into a new mower and I was interested in a diesel. But now with rising costs, is it worth it? What is the best in a 52in.?

I think you have answered you own question. What would the benefit be for you. The only way I would buy a diesel mower would be to burn grease oil and I dont know if thats possible with smaller engines. They are heavier, they cost more to fix and you could be paying 6.50-7.50 within less than a year.

We recently purchased our first diesel mower
(a Grasshopper 722D with Kubota D902 engine).

So far its been consuming about a half gallon per hour, thats roughly half the gallonage that our comparable gas mowers consume, so even though diesel costs a little more there is still significant savings on fuel cost.

Also, Kubota liquid cooled engines are extremely reliable and we've had them provide in excess of six thousand hours of service when properly maintained.

I think a diesel mower can be a good investment in your business, especially if you can find a lightly used one in good condition.

DFI-costs a lot less and just as fuel efficient at $.70/gallon less-not a tough decision.

I'm not sure anyone makes a 52" diesel. Most diesels have decks that are 60" and larger.

Our Grasshopper outfront is 52" and has the excellent "powerfold" feature :-)

Toro, Grasshopper, and Everride make one that I know of.
