Whats the best herbicide to kill clover when using 1/4 gallon per 1000 sq ft?
Speedzone, Momentum, Chaser??? Ester, amine? Spike it with extra 2,4D? Is a 100% kill possible with just one app?
Warm days -- cool days? Surfactant? Go slow in weedy areas?
In the past, we would spread & spray using a ride-on....then go over the weedy areas again.
rscvp, thanks

Check the label on drive 75. We have attained great clover control with it!

Ya but we're cheap. Anything cheaper? Been using Chaser ester with great results except when using it in ride-ons at 1/4 gallon per 1000 (yes, we use the correct amount -- 1.1 oz per 1000).

Doesn't matter what you use if you don't get the liquid on all of the Clover! I slow down when I come up on large Clover patch to make sure they all get hit. If it's a large infestation I'll spray em good hith the hose on the Z-Spray as I go by. That usually does them all in. (Mec Amine-d + LI700)

What Liberty said. Here's what I've tried this season.
I using 2,4D LV-4 Ester (generic from Tractor Supply), max. label strength with Lesco spreader/sticker.
Six weeks later I'm seeing other small patches that weren't there when I treated originally. But, the original patches of clover are gone.
Good luck in finding your solution. - Ed

We're using MSMA with good success since our temps have really shot up.
Otherwise, and not advisable UNLESS you're spot spraying - since leaves form a canopy to protect the lower, Round-up.

Killing clover with Roundup works great for us........but we're getting alot of complaints.:laugh:
Lots of excellent advice here so far. Thanks all. Anybody else???
AustinLawnscape made an excellent point -- clover is one of those weeds that pops up throughout the growing season. Also clover is easier to kill in the fall, but new customers don't want to wait 'til then, hence my post.

Larry,
We use Eliminate @ 1.1 oz per k. in our PG's and our Z. I would say somewhere in the vicinity of 90% control on a regular basis. No sticker or surfactant either.
You haven't figured the answer to your own question yet? or is this a test for the rest of us?
But cost of product is second to cost of a call back in my book.

Thanks T H -- nope, this ain't no test. Just trying to find out what works. We've tried MecAmine-D, LESCO three-way, Tri Mec 992, Li-700, Speedzone, Chaser ester, and more. I know we can fry clover when it's 90 degrees, but right now, they're tough little suckers. Heard from guys running PG's, Z-Sprays, & T3000's. So far the best kill for us comes from our LESCO Z-Two sprayer/spreader and the T3000 (at a high pressure). Z-Spray Max comes in 3rd. The rest = poor results. I think it all boils down to leaf coverage with a product that can penetrate leaf tissue. One nice thing about esters is you get good weed kill, but no spreader/sticker is needed.
Anybody else running LESCO Z-Two's or TURFCO's? Reason I ask is they seem to be better at weed coverage/kill.

When you say high pressure on the T3000 what pressure are you talking? I usually have mine set at 40 when doing full width spraying. So far I have not had any callbacks but it is a little to early to tell.

I use Super Trimec. I have great results with it, year round, and I was using it in the synergy spreader. The volume is very low, 8000 sq ft per gallon.
This is my third year, so I'm still pretty new with under 50 accts., but I've never had a callback.

I use Lesco Threeway at 1.3 oz/1000 with spreader sticker. My Permagreens spray 6 gal/acre and my Boom sprayer sprays 4.5 gal/acre. I have excellent control. If a customer needed to see instant results I would add some Surge, Redzone, or Octane.

LushGreenLawn - What's the difference between SuperTrimec and Trimec Classic? I don't know but suspect it's just spiked with some extra 2,4 D?

Clover is a direct result of low nitrogen levels. Only way to completely get rid of it "for good" is to fix the *root* of the problem, not just the symptom. Get on a proper fertilization program.
P.S. Speedzone has worked the best for me for clover and ground ivy. Didn't matter the time of year.

super trimec is ester as opposed to amine salt.

Running 40 - 45 psi (have run it at 60, but that drains the tanks too fast).
Been using 1 1/3 ounces per 1000 with our TURFCO unit --- excellent results. Our PG units are now permanently parked in our warehouse cuz they're a PITA to run and they don't cover much ground per hour. The T3000 RULES!

I use Lesco 3-way spiked with Confront. Works great.
Do you know that Confront is no longer labeled for residential use?

I use 1.3 oz Triplet with sticker, and it work fine. If the weeds are real bad, spike the mix with Octane.
I run a PG ultra and spray 32oz/1k ft/sq.
