View Full Version : How to cut tall grass and weeds???

I've got a Lesco 36" walk behind and I'm mowing a lot of foreclosure properties with up to waist high "grass". It's mostly stalky kind of stuff and my mower just runs over it but doesn't cut it. Do I need to set my mower up differently, different blades or can this type of mower just not cut this type of stuff. Thanks.
Sounds like you need to bush hog. If you cut waste high grass, you might eat up the life of your belts and thats best case.
If it's not large lots you could use a trimmer to reduce the height enough so the grass would be short enough to raise under the deck and get cut.

Yeah, what he said. You need a bush hog or you can go and get the RedMax Reciprocator to cut it down to size and then use your walk behind with RAZOR sharp blades for each one of these junk properties you bid on and get.
Expect that this mower is not going to handle this kind of beating without your eyes and hands checking it out daily and making sure there are no loose parts or broken pieces that can haunt you later on down the road.

They're right, finish mowers aren't made to tackle highway grass.
Maybe weed eat it all down first, or use a reel machine.
But at least you're having fun, I remember them days.

Weed eat first and let it dry, then tackle the lawn again. I had one the other day that was waist tall but very, very sparce...mower did a fine job except it left lots of stringers. I offered to mow twice but they refused to pay for a double cut and instead said they would hit the stringers with a trimmer.

bush hog will definitely cut down on the wear and tear on your mower.
