I use a straight die grinder. It works great.

I fit the cutter bar in a vise, tap the teeth until they are eveny spaced, and sharpen all 4 sides by draw-filing with a small, single-cut flat file. Be sure to de-burr the back side when you're finished.
vise and 4" grinder.
takes about 15 minutes.

I take my trimmer blades apart and use a small 2.5 inch grinding wheel that fits onto a drill. I then take the blades and put them into a vise and go to town. I feel I get the best sharpening angle and better control especially because I can adjust the speed of the drill accordingly.

I pay this old man who sharpens tools about $20 bucks to sharpen mine. He sharpens all my blades, saw chains, misc tools and hedge clippers.
I don't have time to sharpen all that crap..

Small triangle file. Doesnt usually take much to put them back to a nice sharp state again, just a few strokes.
