Ok, I posted a couple things about seeding and draining. There is a local company going to excavate and do the dirt work on the field. How much sand should there be put down for a sand base and how much top soil on top?

There is very little soil in a sand base system. In putting greens 10% max, for football there's a little more. This is some thing you can't do your self effectively, you need the soil components blended. DO NOT cap a sand base system with soil. It defeats the purpose. The purpose of sand base systems is to prevent compaction and increase drainage. Soil over the sand will clog the system. You do not want layers in the soil, it disrupts drainage. Your better off with a 100% soil system. The amount of sand it takes to increase drainage is 70% by volume. At 70% sand, there are enough sand particles to bridge together without soil in between them, thus increasing drainage. If you want further info. Contact Dr. Andy McNitt at Penn State
