For those of you that think creeping bentgrass is a weed, take a look at this. Here is my Penncross creeping bentgrass lawn that I planted on 08-04-07. I mow it at 1/2" with a seven blade reel mower.

Nice, did you start from scratch? and how much $ per pound for the seed?

Yes I started from scratch, and the seed was $15/lb. I used 2 lbs per 1000 sq ft, or about 5 lbs total.

Looks too labour intensive for my likes, but it does look VERY nice!

I think you said you cut it at 1/2 inch? That's pretty high for creeping bentgrass. At the golf course we use to cut it at a quarter inch or less. That being said, they were a PITA to maintain.
It looks fantastic... But if you make a little scuff by accident does it tare up the grass?

Looks very nice! A lot of maintenance, right?

I mow every other day and water deeply once a week. Other than that, I drop 1 lb/1000 sq ft of nitrogen once a month. So in my eyes, its not a lot of maintenance. The grass spreads insanely fast, so any scuff marks repair in a week. And yes I play golf, but not on this lawn :). And the tracks only run once a day and its only 10 cars so its pretty quiet here.
This fall I want to overseed declaration bent into it to get a thicker shoot density. Penncross is something like 200 shoots per sq inch, but declaration is over a 1000.

Looks AMAZING by the way. Very hard to do that in the midwest. My parent's have a putting green in their yard, extrodinarily difficult establish and requires TONS of care.
Very impressive.

Hey, thats a awesome yard. Don't be afraid to mow it high. Fairway's are usually mowed at 1/2".
However, you might want to aerate twice a year to encourage vertical growth or by a verticutter for it.
Spray some Lesco 18-0-0 chleated Iron to give it a dark green color...Man that will be the best yard in town!

Wow, that doesn't even look like real grass. It almost looks artificial. Cool stuff!

I don't think bentgrass is a weed, I just don't want it in my lawn and it must die! ;)

That is awesome. Great yard! 1/2 inch is not bad for your variety. An L-93 or A-4 would want to be cut a little shorter!
Do you do any topdressing?? Your lawn could really benefit from that- after an agressive verticutting (like was said previously)...
How is your disease pressure?? Do you spray fungicides or for snow mold in the winter up there?

Nice looking lawn, too bad your neighbors can't take the pride you do in your lawn.

Really nice lawn, and looks like a really nice place. The tracks actually look cool right there. As long as the train doesn't come roaring through in the middle of the night....
