For those of you who have used both the Toro Proline 21" and the Lawn Boy 21" mowers, which will mow the average residential lot (2 000 to 5 000 sq ft) faster?

A 32" Toro will mow twice as fast as the 21". And 3x as fast with a sulky.

Not sure which is faster but I have a Toro 21" proline and am very happy with it. No problems.... just keep 'er serviced regularly..don't abuse it...hope this is of some help.

Compared to my Deere, my Lawnboy is slow! The Deere will do 4.1 mph in 5th gear. Thats a fast walk!

There is no competition. If you "juice" the Lawnboy up by turning up the governor spring a little it will jump out of your hands if you are not holding it tight!

When the lawnboys are juiced up there is nothing that can compare. Although I've never used a 21" Deere. I just know all the rest of the Deere stuff is junk.

I disagree with all deere stuff being junk. As bob said, the deere goes 4.1 in 5th...thats what I have and I love it. All the other 21"ers I looked at were the same, if not lower speed, nothing higher than 4.1mph that I found. Anything faster than 4.1 would be running...maybe if the turf was really smooth you might could go faster, but 4.1mph in a 21" should be plenty of speed.

The toro and the lawn boy have the same drive axles, if the toro has 3 speeds then it will go as fast as a 3 speed lawnboy
the personal pace toros are a little bit faster then the single gear lawnboy silvers, most likely due to the variable speed pullys not being the same size but the silver series LB's have the same drive axle as the personal pace or single speed toros, I'd avoid the 4.5 hp tec. schitt engines and get the duraforce, as for wich will cut a small lawn faster, a 3 speed lawnboy over any toro , and yes I have used both.http://207.0.81.70/images/smilies/crazya.gif

I own a toro personal pace, It is awsome!!!! I dont know the exact ground speed but its fast enough. MIne has never had any problems at all maintance wise.

HAve you ever though about getting like a 32" or even a 36" walkbehind? They are not that expensive and like Stone said the are probably three times as fast as a 21". Just a thought

By they way the personal paces are anywhere from 500- 600 bucks, not to bad on the wallet:D

Thank you Viperchild for showing how mature you are by straping a hand cart on a piece of residential lawn care equipment and taking a joy ride. ~ Nate

Toro bought LawnBoy name 5-6 years ago. For the last 2-3 years, all new LawnBoy models seem to have been converted to Toro drive systems. So equivalent machines in either line should operate at roughly the same speed, if rpm's are the same.

If you are worrying about differences in top speeds on a 21" you should be using a larger mower.
We run alot of 21"s, all LB comm's, & a couple Toro's (only because you can attach doubles for leaf mulching). Top speed is not an issue in smaller confines where a 21" is productive.
LB's are faster because they are lighter & can be turned & pulled backwards easier & because they have a designated side discharge.

you wish you could pin something like that on me, besides it was in the back yard, 2 it's a commercial mower, and 3, i ask you refrain from the "child" tag on my name.:)
