oil change/oil filter

Hi,

I've always assumed that when you change oil on any vehicle, you change the filter. I did so at 5 hours, when I first changed the oil on my 20/54 Fastrak. I gather from some other posts here--and from the Honda engine manual--that it is OK to change the filter at longer intervals (I forget what the manual says; every 100or 200 hours?) and carry the same filter over for an oil change or two. What say you?

The engine mfg's feel comfortable with it.
I would make my decision based on the conditions and the abuse the machine takes.
Likely, my own mower, oil is cheap, I change it.

I always change my filter every oil change. Just something I do on my truck and mowers.

Thanks, but the question was really about the filter, not the oil.

I'll continue to change the filter as well, but I wonder why Honda puts what seems to be misinformation (100 hours between oil changes, 200 for filters) in the owner's manual.
