Yea, I know what you mean. My female lab is much better now. Had to give her some pills twice a day and the stiches were the kind that dissolve on their own. Shes back to her old self. She'll be 1 this august, my male lab is 5.

B E A utiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clapping: Your dogs look very healthy. I assume from what i see they look like they cam from a champion bloodline.

They sure did. The Chocolate (Ruger) came from a field champion father (Grizzley) still alive and the black (Boone) came from a field champion mother (Lilly) Still alive. Different breaders and different states, but each were the same price of 650.00 each...... ;) But they are well worth it. We field train them 3 times a week, so they stay pretty active. Ruger is by far the best gun dog, but Boone is the better pet. :usflag:

She is not an albino but we do get asked that a lot. Here (http://www.awsaclub.com/faq.htm) is a link to the American White Shepherd Associations web site that explains all about the white Shepherd breed if you are interested. She is truly the best friend a guy could have no pun intended I don't know what I would do without her around.

Its a full house and in all honesty tucker is the biggest pain and hes the most trained. The middle one is a sweet heard and the 3rd one hates both of them. Its a fight every day in my house but there all my babys. There the reason I cant wait to go home everyday.

Nice dogs guys. Very pretty dogs, and look very healthy. There are a lot of you guys that have my favorite breeds. That's a Labrador and a German Shepard. I have both breeds and don't know what I would do with out them. Pics are below.

KC, Im looking for some collars for my labs when they get older. What kind do you have and how have they worked for you. I plan on doing about 1/2 acre fence for them with shock collars.

mhussey
06-05-2008, 09:10 AM
Toad,

Both my dogs are on an underground fence. I order all my parts from the link below.

http://www.thepetstoreonline.com/petsafesale.html?gclid=CK3px7Gi3ZMCFQUjGgodY1KYYw

The underground fence is a great way to go. Some call it inhumane, however the shock is not uncomfortable. I put the collar in my hand and took the shock. I said if it's uncomfortable to me I will not use it. It's minimally the equivalent to a mild static shock (High voltage, but very, very low current talking micro amperes). I bought both my dogs the Stubborn dog collar that has 5 levels of correction (My Chocolate is somewhat hard headed).

Hope this helps.

My Lab will just lay down in the pool as seen in the picture, but my German Shepard will stand there and splash the water on her self and on him while in there together. It is pretty funny. Love the Golden Retriever pics. Goldies are such great dogs! We had one we had to put down a couple years ago. She was an absolutely wonderful dog. Her hips & joints got bad and I could not bear to see her suffering anymore. As soon as I have some spare time (late fall) I am going to look for another Goldie puppy. The biggest thing I miss is the greetings at the door when you come home from a long day!

Well I agree with you on the poo part. My dog's, and I think everyone with Labs and larger breeds will agree they let some land mines. However, I have trained my dogs to use the bathroom in the woods. Sometimes they don't though.

I appreciate the sentiment KC. Actually I had to get her her own best buddy.
Freyja was a full blown Newfoundland, she tipped the scales about 165. We were real active in the Newfoundland club in your neck of the woods. She marched in the American Royal parade every year, and we trained and certified Newfies from all over the country in Olathe lake every summer.
KCMO used to hold a day at the park event called Dogtoberfest every year and Freyja just loved to meet the little dogs but they were understandably freaked when she would go nose to nose with them. I could tell it would break her heart they wouldn't be her friend so we went out and got her her own little buddy, a miniature schnauzer. So I still have the schnauzer, but she thinks she's a Newf!

Hes often mistaken for a pitbull. Must be the ears. I'd prefer people (strangers) be afraid of him. Reality is hes amazing with small kids, and very protective of me and my wife. Has a loud-deep bark, but would never bite.

People that know boxers would not confuse that gorgeous dog with a pitbull. People that dont know about them often ask if mines a pit but then those familiar with boxers immediately say "nice looking boxer". That is one good looking dog and I bet he keeps the yard on lock down (or at least has the looks to act like he is). I have a brindle now with the ears not docked but Im about 90% sure that my next one will have the ears done. Gotta change users on the pc so I can post up some pics of my boy.

I'm looking at gettting a brindle now. The Fonz is lonely. Won't crop the ears on the new puppy this time. There's a great breeder not to far from me, Fonzi comes from a champion bloodline-he has a twin sister, they were the cutest two from the litter IMO.

Good looking dog. I never owned a retriever but i assume they are pretty much labs with longer hair.

labs and goldens are way way different i have trained gun dogs and detection dogs for years. the work ethic of a field bred lab and field golden is very different. labs are much more hard charging and take more training pressure. even as pets the have very different attitudes. having retriever in their names is the most that the have in common. just trying to put the correct info out there not trying to offend any one.

Does your pit like to swim, I know my cousins pit could care less if he ever went swimming again. Yesterday he was playing with this little ankle bitter dog, the pit would lay down on the ground and wait for the other dog to jump on him, and then the pit would just the little one down, they did that for 2 hours non stop. They're great dogs if raised right.

Sorry for the close up, it's all I have right now. This is Logan. We got him at a shelter. He had been there for 6 months! My kid saw him when her and mom went to look at the animal's at the shelter one day. Next thing ya know, I'm driving over the next day while they were at work and school. I had them bring him out to a room to spend some time with him. He wasn't eating very good and looked skinny. Other dogs always picked on him. The small scrape on his nose was from a fight him and another dog got into. At least that is what the lady at the shelter said. I spent about 10 minutes with him and I just couldn't leave without him. My little girl came home to find him looking out the window at her when she walked up to the house and started screaming. LOL Scared the crap out of the poor boy. hahahaha He has been a great dog. It will be hard to part with him when that time comes.

Meet Jack (happy jack) an english bulldog, my cousins friends dog. Then there is Tanner who is a pitbull/staffordshire terrier. He was shot last summer, he is back to full force. With the blood transfusion he is part poodle, doberman I think, and 2 other whimpy dogs. But from day 1, he has been the biggest baby. You can take away his bone and he'll look right at you like you didn't do a think.
Then there is Daisey, who is an American Bulldog. She's a pain in the butt, high strung. Ugly too, she's another baby. Tanner and Daisey are my cousins dogs, I don't have any dogs, but they are like my dogs too, since i see them so much.

These two aren't mine but I take care of them often enough, where I am like their second owner. The small one is a pomeranian, her name is Lily. The bigger one is a mix named Parker. Both were found at the animal shelter. They are the best dogs ever.

Here are two of three of mine not including my sister's. If you include my sister's dog we have four. When she's in town it's like a zoo.

Anyway, One is a golden retriever named Jasmine and the other is a mix between golden and chow her name is Cinnamon. In the pic she had a bad hair day.

I love my pups.

There are some huge dogs on here. I can't imagine being chased by one of them.

Alot of great dogs shown here.

I have two, a male golden retreiver and a female wired haired dachshund. The dachshund I inherited, the golden retreiver was my son's but he bonded with me,( I sort of knew he would, my son never spent much time with him). They're an odd pair of dogs, I get amused looks and comments when I walk them, but hey, they get along great together.

We become so attached to dogs and they become part of the family it just really cuts deep when they pass on. Wish they lived as long as us.

Saw this old poem below by Frank O'Hara in a magazine at the vets office a few months ago, kinda sums it up for dogs, especially if you saw or read Marley & Me. Made me think how short dogs lives are.:(

Have you forgotten what we were like then
when we were still first rate
and the day came fat with an apple in its mouth

it's no use worrying about Time
but we did have a few tricks up our sleeves
and turned some sharp corners

the whole pasture looked like our meal
we didn't need speedometers
we could manage cocktails out of ice and water

I wouldn't want to be faster
or greener than now if you were with me O you
were the best of all my days

UPDATE: Hey guys, bad news. I know I just posted on this thread a little while ago, but I just lost my buddy Mason on Monday the 16th after a hard battle with Cancer. He was only 5 years old with his 6th birthday coming up here in March. He was just diagnosed a week before Christmass, but it was an extremely fast spreading and aggressive form. I already miss him a lot but I'm glad for all the good times and memories we shared. Rest in peace buddy boy.
