View Full Version : Name the Fungus

Woke up to go spray for broadleaf weeds yesterday and found this on the high school football field. Does anyone know what this is? I'd like to get control of it before it advances. (Pictures are from my front yard)
It's also in some newly seeded areas that germinated about a week ago.

Sorry to tell you but I believe you have pythium blight. You need to treat this as soon as possible, it is a rapidly spreading fungus and it needs to be treated today.

Pythium is common mainly in new seedings. It occurs when conditions are very wet and very warm--nighttime temps over 80 are particularly dangerous. It appears as flat greasy spots where the dead turf takes on a slimey apperance.
Maybe it is dollarspot or some other fungus. And hopefully a minor problem.

This is just a shot in the dark, I can't open the picture files. We had pythium develope here just last Friday. We treated Friday afternoon and have stopped the spread. I'll go along with the comments of the previous posters.
