I heard on here a while back that it goes for about 500-700lbs per yard depending on how wet it is.

so if my trailer has a rating of 5000 pounts and my tounge weight is 700 and my tires are class d then how many yards at a time can i safely haul?

I figure normaly about 70 pounds per bag X 9 bags = 630 ish pounds

how much can your truck safely stop

I don't think it weighs but only around 350 lbs for 1 cu yd.
This is how I came up with that.
13 - 2cu ft bags equals 1 cu yd.
I would GUESS that 1 bag weighs about 25 lbs. 25 x 13 = 325.
Then add a little for wetter mulch. Total = 350 lbs

Although, I could be wrong.

It depends on how high the sides are on your trailer. If it is 5 x 10' as your tag says and the sides are 2' high that would be 100 cubic feet or 3.7 cubic yards. Unless the mulch is sopping wet it would be within the weight capacity of the trailer. If you don't have trailer brakes and you're not pulling it with a heavy duty truck you might have problems stopping.

so i'd probably be better off having it delivered to the site?

With my 1/2 ton Chevy v6, and my trailer with aerator and slice seeder I can carry 3 yards. But, I will admit it is WAY TOO MUCH... the jack on my trailer, at full height only gives me 1.5 inches of clearance.

Delivery allows you to do more in a day too if you do not have a 1ton dump. You can save trips to the yard to get mulch/compost.

Learned that compost weighs a lot more... learned the hard way... can only carry 2 yards of compost.
