Finally got our new maint. truck today. Got 2 drop boxes (one we'll add a top to for leaves/plants/chips. Other is for mulch and of course the maintenance body. Love the truck, so far too. Avg 15mpg today running up and down the highway for 300 miles @ 70mph. I'd expect it to do a little better at a slower speed, but since it was unloaded today I figured it'd get about the same loaded. Made my first delivery of mulch in it today too.. great for getting in a small area w/ a ton of mulch.

One thing to keep in mind your going to be burning up steer tires every 19,000 miles or so. Cabovers are hard on tires I'am probably only get that out of the Bridgestone R250s on my 03 F-450 which runs the 225 rubber.
I was reading a LCF brochure today while waiting at Ford service dept. The LCF sounds like a decent truck.
You will definatly want a Detroit True Trac limited slip in the diff which is the OEM limited slip. Cabovers can get stuck fairly easy. If you get into somebodys yard you will be spinning in the dirt or mud. I seen guys with cabover GMC/Isuzu trucks throwing dirt from spinning tires.

Very nice rig. And I can attest to the getting stuck with a cabover. They will practically get stuck on wet grass.

That's a beauty. What is the net capacity in tons and yards with that container? How is the dump angle?

How much does the sng lift system cost? Where did you get it done at? I have never seen the maintenance body on an SNG... that is genius.

its a rather expensive option, but for me I think its going to be a good solution. The crew that will drive this truck only does small installs/mulching and does maintenance 3 days a week. They've been having to drag a trailer around all these tight neighborhood roads and we've been lucky so far that we've not torn something up.
I got the bed from a nice group in Va. PM me if you want their info, TThomas gave me their info the first time.
I'm not sure on the weight yet, I don't plan on hauling anything heavier than mulch with this truck anyways, we use of 750 for that stuff. I measured this morning and should be able to get 15 yds in there flush to the top so might mound some more over.

the ford supposedly has a heavier tie rod to help w/ alignment and tire wear but I know what you mean. Our mitfuzo FE loves some tires, unfortunately though here Piedmont NC we burn though tires on everything because of our pavement. something about the payment mixture leaves it sharp and we have the worst tire wear in the country from what a TV news thing said.

I know Ford owns Volvo - is that truck just a rebaged Volvo? Great looking set up by the way. Hope it works great for you.

its made by international and ford in a joint thing. The cab I was told was a mazda design.

is that the lighter or heavier lcf. what made you go with bucks vs the hook lift?
BrandonV
06-21-2008, 06:07 PM
hook lifts are more $ and since I'm looking to only change beds once or twice a week I thought this would be better.... that and the landscape bed.
oh btw it is a LCF 55 or bascially a f550, 19,500 gvw. great power so far, I don't see why ford thinks people need the V8 in the superdutys, this is more than enough for a work truck, they should at least make it optional in the other superdutys

I don't remember exactly, I think the hoist was around 12-13 w/ the bodies at different prices depending on how you have it set up. please don't quote me, I have a terrible memory when it comes to numbers.

will you be able to leave all mowing equiptment on the bed when you switch, or is the lift angle too severe?
BrandonV
06-27-2008, 03:41 PM
don't know, I have them take it all off and put it inside anyways. The crew only mows 2-3 days a week.

loaded 18 yds of mulch today, and thought I'd try loading it from the ground instead of loading on the truck and having to tarp on the truck. doesn't get much easier than that. the truck btw is quite happy w/ the load.

that definatly makes tarping easy . it be nice to see a real video of the sng in action on some ones truck not those 2 sex clips they have on there site.

well unfortunately my iphone don't do video, yet... anyways it fairly easy to load/ unload. you just have to practice and need to keep the bed being lifted parallel to the rails as much as possible. my landscape bed is a bit tricky to load because it has the front steps/feet that if you're not careful want to clip the mudflaps, the containers don't have these feet so it's a non-issue. you can winch the box up in under a minute.

That's a sweet set up. What happens when you do a yard with alot of trash? Do you make two trips? One for trash, one for mulch? Also can you put a hitch on that truck?

how much can that truck haul legall? in tons or lbs

Heavy loads like that put the hoist almost all the way up and have hte truck in neutral. Once it gets over the first yellow roller begin lowering as you lift the container. Once beyond a tipping point...........2nd roller from the cab usually.........lower the hoist almost all the way and continue the winch, its easier on the winch this way and then lower the hoist the rest of the way.
*******When driving unplug the controller. I once had my seat hit the reverse switch and undo about 8' of cable. When I went to off load the EMPTY body it free rolled for those 8' and scared the hell out of me because I didn't know what the heck was going on.
Once a year pull the core out of the winch and blow the dust out, keeps it healthy. My truck was totalled when I was about to do so.
Keep the rollers greased regularly.

gvw is 19500 not sure of the weight, like I said earlier it's hauling mulch and mowers, we have a f750 that hauls gravel and dirt, that's just too much strain for these little trucks in my opinion, or at least the amount that I want to haul per trip.

i does have a trailer hitch (reece receiver) that I hope to never have to use. The whole purpose of this truck was to not have this crew pulling a trailer, I'm the only class A driver in the company so I do all trailering.

You might be very overloaded, especially on the rear axle.

My 19500 gvw Isuzu w/ 15 yd S-N-G rolloff is legal at 3.25 tons. with an empty weight of just under 12K. The LCF can't be much different. Using my 11 yd container I'm at 3.5 T .............a tad bit more capacity.
Here's a video of our truck:

got some use out of ours today. our lcf too has a 19.5 gvw. we haul around 16 yds of mulch w/ it normally, we don't haul dirt with it.
